Which is why I made a suggestion instead of an order/demand.
Dks01 They have been without power for 18 hours.

My suggestion was in reference to the initially mentioned 18 hour outage. My examples were to show that you don't need to spend a lot of money on a whole home setup as most people don't look into backup generators thinking it would be costly.
It's all a risk/reward calculation/decision. Throw some wood into the fireplace and put the perishables outside in the winter and there's your no power contingency plan.
Try to have a friendly conversation on a forum and get your head chewed off... sheesh.
