I had to replace my motherboard because my old one was damaged. I’m using the same cpu with it (an i7 2600k). When I started windows 11 on the new motherboard, I found the license was de-activated. I contacted Microsoft, but they wouldn’t reinstate the license, and insisted since it was a new motherboard, it would require purchasing a new license.
So I’m just running linux now.
I looked into the Hiren’s BootCD PE, but as far as I can tell, there’s no way to install software on it, even temporarily. Is that right, or am I misunderstanding? It just comes with it’s built-in utilities, and that’s it?
I was mostly using windows to run tax software every year, and some odd utility here and there that was only available for windows.
Like just last week, I had to initialize a new HikVision camera, and their “SADP” utility to do that wasn’t available for linux. So it was easiest to just boot up windows and run it. Maybe there’s a way I could have figured out something else, but that seemed quickest and easiest.
