anyone planning on running Win10 past the end of life?

as per the title if you're going to do so how do you plan on doing security updates & patches? IIRC there were a few post on the old forum which linked to 3rd party patches. I did the Rufus bypass thing a on what I'll call a "test" system and no problem. The issue we will have is my wife's system is a 32bit system. As you all know Win11 in only in the 64bit flavor. This isn't a deal breaker but we also have an OLD Cannon Scanner that only works on the 32bit OS plus I am one of those people that live by if it works don't fix it. Wife has an old Dell Ispiron desktop that came with a 10/100 nic and the old sata drive. I updated the nic to a gig speed and upgraded her hardrive to a SSD 6 -7 years ago and it just runs and it works for her. My desktop would support a in place upgrade with the Rufus hack but as of today I'm leaning towards sticking with Win10 but that is subject to change but not for the 32bit system. So if anyone plans on going past the EOL love to hear your thoughts & tips to proceed forward on Win10

Microsoft will give consumers in the European Economic Area no-strings extended support for the soon-to be-EOL Windows 10.

Customers will still need a Microsoft account to secure the ESU, but Euroconsumers considers this doesn’t violate the DMA.

I have a nice campus available for them to Buy/Lease/Build to Suit in Amsterdam where they can move to since they seem to think so highly of the continent across the pond over North America that enabled them to develop and become what they are today, not to mention allowing them to carry on their ruthless monopoly all this time to our detriment. 😠😠

I just installed Win 10 IoT LTSC on one machine, and will probably do it on a couple more – it has a bunch of missing features, but most of those aren’t *that* important.

Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 provides security updates until January 13, 2032.

Andyross Microsoft is going out of its way to piss off its customers. Ive used Windows since 3.11, in the last 5 years or so Ive been migrating to Mac. Only use Windows for gaming, but Linux likely would work fine for the games I play. I dont see myself using Windows 12, if they release a Windows 12 that is.

just_4_fun I just did the 0PATCH PRO subscription hopefully it will be okay, it installed with no problems says all things are good to go. I did a reboot about 30 minutes after install just to make sure things were playing nice, so far so good.

Guy54435 When the clock runs on Win10 we’ll follow your lead to Opach. I was thinking about buying a CPU that supports Win11 but I just don’t feel like transferring everything over just because MS says to do so. In the meantime we’ll continue with our backups to our NAS so when one our the systems crash we’ll move to 11 then.

To avoid confusion:

0patch (starts with a [0] zero) is the update service we’re talking about.

OPatch (starts with the letter O) is an updater for some Oracle software.

Opach was a big study on heart disease in older women.

this one, I scoped it out this morning. the only hard part now is buying it and converting 24.95 euros to USD, as of this morning it is $24.29 USD plus any fees a US credit card may have for the exchange

Capital One credit cards have no extra fees for foreign transactions, unlike most other cards.

Has anyone else tried going through the Windows enroll entry in Windows Update? Maybe you qualify for a year and may not realize it. I think the worst that can happen is you only have a paid option, so you can try 0Patch or pay MS or do something else.

Andyross sure, but you also said you signed up by way of Windows Update correct? I’m not seeing in Win updates so I’m going to assume its associated with your MS Cloud account. Or if I’m wrong and you have a link please post it so others could benefit.

My plan has been what its been all along, either get an 11th hour reprieve from MS on the support updates or just run out the clock on them. I’m not buying anything else from MS related to Win10. Probably half the people still running Win10 don’t know the MS support end is near and the other half don’t care.

I’ve been putting (umm , ignoring) this off. Finally decided to do something. Says I don’t have a MS account or I’m not signed it to it. If there is one I don’t know it. It also says I haven’t received any info because updates are paused but I can’t seem to get them turned on.

If you somehow blocked updates in the past, this may help to re-enable them.
