While we wait for the announcement that N+X deployment has officially begun... Unified is the new version of FDX that has downstream going all the way to 1.8 GHz (currently limited by old taps). The return still stops at 684 MHz. Comcast has presented this spectrum layout to begin with: This is sufficient to offer symmetrical 2 Gbps. When more of the legacy channels go away, higher speeds can be offered. 3.1 modems that get FDX-L (limited) firmware can use the FDX channels.

hex0101 interesting. XB7 is a lot of hardware for just a telephone line. I have one building with a small black Arris modem that has 4 RJ-11 ports on it. Could have used that I would imagine. Oh well it’s not my money.

Maybe for business a CBR3 or maybe they’ll get fancy and skip 3 and come out with a CBR4. All in one FDX gateway. None of our sites are in FDX territory. We don’t have offices in the Willow Grove PA area.

Always got a chuckle on the voice side. Reboot the gateway? Well it will make sure there are no active voice calls.

They’ve been expanding FiOS for the past few years, at about 500k homes passed per year.

With them buying Frontier, clearly they’re interested in getting back into fiber again.

No, not really. Cost of labor always goes up and materials have been going up since Covid, especially now with tariffs kicking in. Costs for building all wireline infrastructure have been going up. Not sure where you get the idea they’re going down, and you NEVER offer up evidence to support your ideas.

The above screenshot shows $40 for Xfinity Voice, and most people just have Ooma Basic, which is typically $4-7 per month, depending on your local taxes.

We’ve been on Magicjack for over a decade, initially as a backup landline for cellphones but now almost exclusively for our home security system. Only ~$50/year and it has always worked great. I don’t think anyone has actually used it at our home for phone calls in many years though. I keep a lonely little Panasonic cordless in the home office, just in case.

Phone only home (its rare but I have one office like that on buisness class) - $40 sure.
Add Internet or TV, that phone line effectively becomes $20.

Personally I use voip.ms with a Grandstream ATA and its usage based and we come out around $4/m average. I like this feature because its ISP agnostic. Just plug in. I also have a Polycom VOIP phone in my office connected to it.

I have neighbor couple that are both in their 90’s. One day the lady walked over and asked me to call her son to let him know they were okay because their frontier copper had been down for 3 days. Interestingly their house is not connected to the Xfinity tap. I was thinking their kids should help them out and at least switch them to Xfinity voice. No doubt it would be more reliable than copper land lines falling apart.

Anyhow I thought it was interesting they are probably the only house not connected to cable on the street. They built their house there over 50 years ago

I’ve been involved with two fiber installs (switched from Comcast). You end up helping out the installer to tug on the wire, etc, or you end up feeding them dinner - which we did anyway! Poor guy was there for half a day.

i forgot where i posted that the 2100mbps isnt showing up at my address anymore, but it looks like they got rid of it for some reason for real. yet im still on 2100/300 , ordering shows up as a low split area.

What city are you located in? I’m still waiting for FDX, or for AT&T fiber to come into my neighborhood in Stockton CA. Lol, hopefully they do something in my lifetime, before I kick the bucket.

videomatic3 FDX is revolutionary in cable broadband. It wouldn’t surprise me they are taking their time to get it right when it’s ready.

10 years ago you bring up the possibility of FDX and you’d be looked at like you have two heads. What we’re experiencing is historic.

cypherstream according to a lot of people on here all fdx means is data running in both directions at the same time regardless of if its sharing the same frequency or not. im the least educated on the matter so i cant put up an argument over it.

Ten years ago the RF physics was reasonably well understood, but the complexity of the (SIC) solution exceeded the capabilities of deployable (outside the lab) solutions. Just as with CPUs, over the past ten years, the capability of the technology has increased to the point that FDX became viable to deploy at scale (and the forward looking engineers and scientists just had to work the details and wait until the technology advanced (while the term is misused, they trust in Moore’s law)).

videomatic3 Full duplex means data in both directions at same time at same max speeds. FDX is very unique because frequencies can dynamically switch which direction they are supporting. I dont think there has been a communication technology such as that ever used as a public telecom before. It is a big deal.

badtlc4 Just to underline that important point, which sometimes gets lost. “Full duplex” is a generic term. DOCSIS 1.0 is full duplex.

FDX borrows the term. Here it means to increase the capacity by having support for some frequencies carrying downstream and upstream at the same time, which must not be confused with the generic term.

FDX in your lifetime? Some of us are still waiting for midsplit 😂
At this rate, I think I’m more likely to see Glo or Frontier/Verizon expand fiber down my street than see real FDX here.
