as per the title if you're going to do so how do you plan on doing security updates & patches? IIRC there were a few post on the old forum which linked to 3rd party patches. I did the Rufus bypass thing a on what I'll call a "test" system and no problem. The issue we will have is my wife's system is a 32bit system. As you all know Win11 in only in the 64bit flavor. This isn't a deal breaker but we also have an OLD Cannon Scanner that only works on the 32bit OS plus I am one of those people that live by if it works don't fix it. Wife has an old Dell Ispiron desktop that came with a 10/100 nic and the old sata drive. I updated the nic to a gig speed and upgraded her hardrive to a SSD 6 -7 years ago and it just runs and it works for her. My desktop would support a in place upgrade with the Rufus hack but as of today I'm leaning towards sticking with Win10 but that is subject to change but not for the 32bit system. So if anyone plans on going past the EOL love to hear your thoughts & tips to proceed forward on Win10

Except for Win11 24H2. MSFT is blocking CPUS that do not support SSE4.2 and/or POPCnt. So, the latest release would be 23H2

Then it means that you won’t be able to upgrade to Windows 11 24H2, period.

The requirement for modern CPU features is part of critical Windows 11 code, that Microsoft introduced with 24H2 and that cannot be bypassed.

I don’t see how it could be anything but legal. I’ve been using 11 via the bypass on unsupported hardware ever since it was released and it used to be when you went to try and join the insider program it would not let you saying that your system was unsupported, so that indicates their awareness of the lack of support and they nevertheless allow the OS to run. Now that has changed and I now even have the option to join the insider program. See also: Unsupported Windows 11 PC and Microsoft account policy indicating that it is not against the EULA. And don’t forget that not only has Microsoft tolerated bypasses all along but they were in fact sole creators and sole distributors of them, one even officially and the rest kind of unofficially, not to mention the fact that they activate unsupported systems as well and fully support them with updates at least twice every month. So they are complicent in the “crime,” if there is one. See here here.

My mom has a Windows 10 device that cant be upgraded to 11. She decided to buy a new one. We are currently evaluating the options for a new one. To be honest we were considering getting her a Chromebook, as she only uses Facebook and does Online banking. But we will also consider a Windows 11 machine.

If I understand correctly, the Rufus bypass uses options/abilities that are already built into the windows 11 install, they’re just not normally exposed.

Possible downsides:

There are some caveats. Most disappointingly, unlike Chromebooks, ChromeOS Flex devices cannot run Android apps. They also lack verified boot security, which requires a dedicated chip built into normal Chromebooks. If it’s legal then MS breaking it with an update is illegal, right? Remember that it’s not just the subservient party to a contract that has to obey its terms but that even though they don’t always seem to think so or act accordingly the dominant party is equally bound by law.

I’ll have to look at this more. If the machine is supported by Flex it might be a good plan. My only issue is on occasion she needs to print (which Im pretty sure ChromeOS can do) but it’s scanning I’m not sure of. We have just a standard Canon Inkjet all in one. I dont think it will scan to network folder or email.

I have 3 Desktops and a Laptop with Win7 Pro. I have one Desktop and Laptop with Win10 Pro. I have several Win11 Pro virtual machines on my dedicated VM Workstation PC.
I guess I can’t just let Win7 go. I hung on to XP for a long time too.

takeahike Its a matter that the device in question is not supported. By bypassing the TPM requirements you are acknowledging that at any time the install might stop working or at leas features might not work. I would put this in the same category of rooting your phone and installing a different OS. Sure it might work, but is Google or the device maker going to give you support? NO. Same difference.

Even if you paid for a legal license that includes your right to receive updates? Sounds like illegal backtracking, not to mention changing the rules in the middle of the game that is never acceptable, legal or considered fair play.

That is not the only block. For example on my computers, the CPU and MB passes every requirement EXCEPT, the age of the CPU. I have an I7-7700K, an I7-6700K and an I7-7700HQ. Because they are not on the approved list, they are blocked. But, they all support TPM 2.0 and every other CPU requirement. These CPUs are just NOT on the list.

AFAIK the working or full functionality of the OS has nothing to do with TPM–that is just for added security. If that was the case the millions of PCs running with the bypass wouldn’t have been working all this time–I have never heard of any failures of 11 because of no TPM support or the other artificial barriers created by Microsoft. What matters is that the license was paid for and thus allowing its use by a buyer is binding on Microsoft. If they didn’t want to have unsupported PCs ever running 11 they shouldn’t have taken the money from those users or looked the other way all this time while the practice was so widespread, not to mention being the creators of all those bypasses. They are and have been part of the current situation from the beginning, making it kind of late in the game to try and back out now. See: here.

It’s a requirement to install Windows 11 and use Windows 11. While it might not affect Windows 11 when you install it. You never know what can happen when Microsoft issues updates. Hell their updates break shit in the best of times.

In my case I didn’t buy a Windows 11 key, I upgraded my Windows 10 key (Which was an upgraded key from Windows 7) to 10. The fact is you can by pass the requirements during install. It is NOT a supported use case. Microsoft will provide you with jack shit in terms of support. So its either take a chance that Windows 11 MIGHT stop working, which is a a chance and not a guarantee. OR you steer clear of Windows 11. Also the same practice happens on Mac’s. There is a patch you can download to run the latest Mac OS on non support Macs. Again just like with the Windows 11 bypass there is a chance that the computer might cease to function when Apple issues updates, as it could break shit.

You buying a license is to use on “Supported” hardware. It’s not Microsoft’s fault if people are hard headed and refuse to upgrade. People act like Windows is the only choice. There are many distros of Linux that will work. OR as @px_eliezer_ pointed out you can install Chrome OS on the machine. This is the same shit that happened when Windows XP went unsupported or when Windows 7 went unsupported. People cried and cried the evils of Microsoft. You either get with the times or get left behind.

Dont get me wrong. I do agree the system requirements are purely bullshit. My mom has a first gen Ryzen APU that would most likely run Win 11 fine. BUT it’s Microsofts decision. Just like it’s your decision if you want to use Windows or not. I personally went to Mac, and only use a PC for gaming (I do very little of that). Honestly if I build a new PC or buy a new PC for gaming it likely will be running Linux in the future.

Their rhetoric says that they don’t support some systems but their actions have supported it all along, activating them even if you bought as you say an unsupported product, giving updates to them from day one and again accepting payment for it and again activating that “wrong” for the hardware product purchased (doesn’t matter if you started with a 7 or 10 key because that was paid for and the deal was an allowed upgrade based on that payment). Since they have behaved as such all this time, again including but not limited to being the sole creator of the bypasses, it’s too late to back out now because of everyone’s detrimental reliance on that, and the way I see it support must continue, including and up to supporting any problems that might crop up because of future updates. Whatever the EULA might say to the contrary is superseded by their conduct and behavior that has been widely relied without exception upon since 2021. As you will surmise from my posts linked with the applicable legal doctrine in my prior posts, actions speak louder than words, even in court.

That’s not a fair question because this ‘system requirement’ is based on the default deployment of Windows 11 enabling Bitlocker; Turn off Bitlocker in your autounattend.xml and disable it in the registry and you’re nullifying the system requirement.

The overwhelming majority of Windows users do not need Bitlocker… or TPM.

But don’t jump to conclusions about the outcome–the jury is not in yet.😊 Your bold prediction about the outcome of a potential case before it has even started certainly demonstrates a determined refusal to set aside your preconceived and apparently limited understanding of the applicable law and to not objectively consider the facts and the applicable precedent that I have explained. And of course I would not be alone, with millions of others similarly situated.
