02-23-2025 In Suits LA, Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York, has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved.

I think this article perfectly summed it up

I wouldn't say it perfectly sums it up as I'm pretty sure I nailed it but it does offer up a point that falls under the umbrella of 'clever writing' in that they don't seem to have it.

As the article suggests, we were simply thrusted us into a situation with all these characters who've had all their long standing issues whereas the original Suits provided us a protagonist who was 'fresh' in the legal world, someone we could latch on to, to carry us through the story.

This situation could have worked for us if we had more jokes segueing us into the situation but unfortunately that's not what happened.

I watched the premiere.

The whole plotline of the first episode reminded me of why the storylines in the original series got stale.

"They're coming after my firm".

I think they said that like 10 times an episode in the final couple seasons. And this one starts with the same thing.

Watched the second episode and I honestly can't tell the difference between the other characters. Literally though, there's three women I believe are different people or are the same people.

We're missing both clever jokes and something like Mike's mystery to keep me going, so far the show is more of a boring legal drama than anything fun to watch.

Agreed. I really hope the show improves and finds its legs soon. They need to recapture what made the original series so great.

The third episode was less-bad. The show still doesn’t have the charm of the first three seasons of Suits but it’s moderately entertaining.

1) Stephen Amell’s character running around being angry is starting to get annoying. He’s literally sniping at every single person he interacts with, even his friends.

2) This episode had more jokes but most of them were forced and not funny; However the scene between Kevin from-The-Office and Patton Oswalt was funny, couple of good zingers there that made me lol.

3) The chick who’s into TV is annoying, there’s no lawyer in real life that’s like her. Most lawyers don’t watch TV or movies so that other chick is extremely realistic but the one eating Fruity Pebbles, yea, she’s over the top.

Alas, it’s gotten to the point where I find myself fast forwarding through cringy or uninteresting parts of recorded episodes. Usually when this starts to happen, it’s not too long before I just delete the scheduled recording of a series on my DVR and forget about it. But that’s a common nature of sequels.

Welp, next week a big star from the original Suits will be guest starring. They will either use him as a cheap one-time crutch to prop up viewership, or leverage him to actually influence the improvement of the writing on the show. Because right now it’s on the edge of the cliff. They could either save it, or it will fall into oblivion and be canceled.

Whatever happens it’s probably already set in stone, as episodes have already been written and shot. Let’s all hope they did better.

It was an interesting run, but time to pull the plug if they can’t get this together.

Yea, to complete my attorney prerequisites for Canada I had to do almost a year of articling and I chose a very large law firm in Toronto and it was absolutely nothing like this TV show… well, aside from the sexual dynamics, male lawyers sleeping with young female lawyers and expecting no strings attached. But yea, there was no screaming or temper tantrums aside from the occasional client in the family law department.

There were a couple of funny moments in this last episode. Looks like it’s starting to slowly get a little bit better and hopefully it’s finding its legs. Now that the murder trial is over, hopefully we’ll see what happens now with the show and if it gets its traction.

The trial tactics are worth watching. As for the rest of it… unfortunately they’ve loaded it up with a bunch of soap opera drama. Without a fast forward button I would have probably dumped this by now. A far cry from the original Suits.

Have to agree. I find myself fast forwarding through nearly 50% of the show now to skip the insipid soap opera parts. At least in the original show the personal “drama” parts had some depth. Who can forget the deep mysterious insight of Donna, or Louis exclaiming “You’ve been Litt up!”. It was actually entertaining, with people being three steps ahead with the personal dynamics.

The flashbacks with Harvey are interesting, but I don’t think are enough to aid in saving the show.

The original show in the first 2.5 seasons had clever writing - it had the thrill of Mike’s secret, it had plenty of good zingers, it had plenty of good plot / case twists, it had an acceptable peppering of soap opera, and most of all it had humor. Suits lost the humor as it went on, it lost the zingers, and it became more of a “gotcha!” then “gotcha back!” style silly-legal show coupled with soap opera antics and this Suits LA seems to be springboarding off that style rather than connecting with Suits when it was good.

It’s too bad because I wanted to see Stephen Amell fly after all the work he put into Arrow but honestly, they did him dirty.

Yeah, I’d probably liken the plotlines to a bad heist movie. Harvey looks like he’s about to get burned, but in a scene that we didn’t show you, they did something that saved the day at the last minute.

Not surprised by Suits LA being dumped after one season. It just didn’t have the same feel as the original series. From annoying characters (particularly the Stuart Lane character) to the constant flashbacks. It had potential but apparently not enough for it to warrant a rework for a second season. It likely didn’t help that the diverged from the original’s storyline/narrative line.
