Comcast Migrating Email to Yahoo Mail

Most of us in this forum probably do not use ISP provided email, but if you know someone who does like grandparents or you use it as a secondary account, Comcast will require you to migrate to Yahoo Mail. You will basically become a Yahoo email customer, but you keep your existing Comcast.net email address. lesmikesell I also talked to Yahoo tech support for an hour and the woman told me that as I did not receive an to switch my Comcast email over it was my fault! I explain i went through the Comcast webmail site as instructed and she repeated as I did not have an email I was screwed. Are you Using you comcast account on Yahoo and using outlook using IMAP?

No. mine is an old original yahoo account. Your problem must have been caused by the transfer process. If you have a working IMAP client you might try moving all your existing email elsewhere and deleting the folder structure.

lesmikesell I managed to pull it all down with Thunderbird. No matter what I did I had Major problems getting outlook to work with Yahoo IMAP. I am really lost because the amount of people who use Outlook and are Xfinity Customers I would expect is a pretty decent size and why they would be moving us over to something that will not work with Outlook. I made a post on a Comcast forum and had some guy rip me a new one and go as far as state it was not Comcast problem as I never paid for email!! Sadly it as I had to explain that i have been with comcast since 1997 and email was always packaged with my internet. Just like Compustar and AOL discs. My wife’s 86 yr old aunt is still using AOL as her Email. The reason for that is it is hard to teach an old person new stuff on a tablet etc.

Aceq2jot It must somehow be related to what happened when you converted before getting your email that it was ready. So you are the only one affected. My only guess as to why it didn’t work was that it made some sort of folder structure that didn’t match what outlook expects for yahoo, but if you have deleted that and it still won’t connect I don’t have any other ideas. Personally I wouldn’t consider either outlook or yahoo mail to be a great loss because there are better alternatives anyway.

When you try to set up the connection, are you telling outlook that it is a yahoo account or a generic imap server?

lesmikesell No errors or anything. It is very weird! I have read that there are major issues with the New Outlook and Yahoo IMAP something to do with exchange servers I believe. A few month ago after I switched to the New Outlook I believe it changed the folder structure.

Well setup my older at&t dsl email thru NEW Outlook that is on yahoo mail as well

No Issues with signing in or anything

setup oldest yahoo email i still use at times with New Outlook as well
Working fine

In addition to Comcast Xfinity Email in NEW Outlook–alls good

along with Gmail & Main Outlook email

No sync issues to report, no cannot connect messages, all appears to be working fine

So don’t think i’ll have any issues when its time to switch Comcast Email over, and if i do, then i’ll trouble shoot and solve it

Aceq2jot Oddly I have not received any email notification however if I log onto my Comcast email I DO get a notification to make the change. For me I am no longer a Comcast customer but still retain 2 Comcast email addys.

Jbob That is what I have done with two computers in my house but had problems. Last week I bought a Surface 7 laptop as it was on sale, and had the same problem with the “New” Outlook. So I downloaded Office again with Outlook Classic and installed it. What I have found is that I cannot set up Yahoo IMAP on the “New” Outlook as in mail setting “Secure Password Authentication” SPA is needed. So in “Outlook Classic” you can set it up to use SPA which you cant in the “New Outlook”. Once you have done that and downloaded your files you can then switch to “New Outlook” and everything will work fine. I had to do this on my old dell. my new surface and my son bought a Lenovo on Friday and i had to do it the same way for him.

Aceq2jot In my case I’m not too worried about using an email client. Although I use one for email, my concern is simply switching my Comcast email to the new Yahoo email without any issues. Although technically I’ve mostly weaned away from my Comcast addy’s. I do get the occasional Spam email where I log in to that account with Web access to flag the email as Spam.

Is it known how backed up Comcast is with this?

Been almost six months now and none of the Comcast e-mail addresses on my account, have received the notification. I’ve been checking them on a weekly basis.

They said the rollout would be gradual, starting in June 2025, and continuing through 2026. So, it probably just hasn’t been your turn yet (or mine, for that matter).

For what it’s worth I received the first email informing about the change in the future. In early August I received a second email stating that in about 30 days I would get the go ahead to move my 2 Comcast related emails to Yahoo. Never got an official email stating “ It’s my turn”.

There is a notice posted on my Xfinity page stating that “I am invited to move etc etc”. That message has been there for at least 2 to 3 months. I wonder is that the infamous notice letting me know “It’s my turn”.

Personally I think I will just let them fall off since they are not used.

I’ve seen people say that they never got the notice in email, saw it on the web page when they logged into web mail, moved, and now everything is screwed up! So I wouldn’t move until you actually see it in an email.

I DO use Comcast as my everyday email, and I’m surprised at the number of people who try to tell me I’m a fool for doing so. (I actually get downvoted on Reddit when I mention it.) Prior to this announcement, I had no idea that Comcast email would every be going away, what with them being such a big company, you know, and one I’m PAYING, you know? Whereas, since I’m “old-school” (been on the internet about as long as civilians could be on it!), I always thought of “free” hosts like Yahoo as a just a bone thrown to those who don’t have anything better! (I still do NOT like it when a company I patronize has no web page or email, just social media as their point of contact! That used to be so gauche.)

JimS538 I had terrible problems with the “NEW Outlook” mail client I was running after I moved to Yahoo on my Laptop and it turns out the problem was in the “New Outlook” as it is not compatible with Yahoo’s Servers 🙁 I also never got any notification on any of my families accounts all 4 and was only notified when I logged in to check my webmail on comcast. Thankfully (Knock on Wood) everything is running fine and I am back to using the “New Outlook” again on all 4 machines.

I finally made the switch on one of my Comcast email accounts. Pretty easy via web browser. However I am curious about the settings for using an email client? If you’re going to edit or add a new one to the old Comcast account on a email client am I to assume you would need to use the Yahoo Mail SMTP/POP server settings?

Jbob If you are using the Microsoft New Outlook as your email client you may have problems.
