There's No Documentation Anywhere For Regular Members

I couldn't find any documentation, FAQs, or tutorials for rank-and-file users on how to use this forum's software, so I went to the Issues section at Flarum's Github site and made a thread. That Issues section is only meant for people writing, installing, and managing the forum software, but I didn't know what else to do. Why don't you guys start your own thread there and maybe they'll get annoyed enough to create help documentation for regular forum members using their forum software.

g121 I agree @SLC_96 and his team did an awesome job, I am grateful for their efforts to give us this place in such sort time. DSLR site is dead, The DSLR community is not, at least those of us that are here and scattered about to hopefully find their way here.

to me it comes across as negative, a challenge, a request/demand to justify .. someone busted their ass in mere days without any warning & time to prepare to offer up a working/functioning forum .. is it reasonable to expect someone to do a full evaluation of all the forum software/packages out there or is it more likely someone took advantage of a decent solution they were aware of ? .. full kudos to SLC_96 ..

FWIW, I really like this software overall.

I'm now more used to it than the old DSLR, and much prefer it to the chaos and glitch of Reddit.

Donoreo A lot of Forum softwares have costs, and add hosting costs which are unavoidable. I haven't done a lot of research into this, and I'm only speaking for myself, but this software is open source, and extensible, which is probably why it was chosen. You can build on it as it expands, as opposed to something more static that needs to be either torn down, or expanded beyond its capacities as the user base grows.

DSLR used the same basic layout and format as most forum software.

It depends on how we look at it. Is this our community or just his website? If it’s the former, then let’s chat about it. I’ve said before, that I’m grateful we have a place, any place, but I can’t understand why something so different from other forum software was chosen. There are plenty of other free ones that are similar in format, layout, navigation, and so on (a classic formula, if you will).

I respect your opinions, and I admit possible ignorance in this area.

Is this new forum software different OR similar to other software, your paragraph seems to say both at the sane time.

1) If is is different, what are some other websites that you feel are better?

2) If it is similar, then what's the issue?

Different. I have never come across any like it. I was referring to most other forum software, at least that I am aware of, all use a similar layout, etc.

Developers in general dislike writing documentation, or it is considered an afterthought.

The real reason is developers are arrogant and think they're superior to everybody else. This is also why the love creating cryptic error messages for their programs. If they don't explain to the rest of us what the problem actually is, they'll always know more than us. Developers are a bunch of IT elitists.

I'll get used to this forum eventually. I just now figured out a work around for the quoting problem by copying the post text, then replying to the post, then using the quote tag button on the bar, and pasting the text inside the quote tag. The other issues I have really aren't important.

My general take on this forum is this:

Heat84 I'll get used to this forum eventually.

The basics are the same: type stuff, click post reply. Navigation and following different forums is a little more complicated, but I'll figure it out.
