So, my question is, how does this affect those in the PED scandal, players like Bonds, McGwire, Clemens? I see it as different because unlike Rose and Shoeless Joe whose actions do not impune their records or statistics–their play and statistical records derived therefrom is all legitimate and is the main criteria for HOF induction–the actions of the PED players affect their records and therefore make the same questionable. OTOH, it is ironic that nearly had all players involved in the PED scandal never engaged in taking PEDs their records before starting were good enough to have made it into the HOF. While I suppose that they thought their improved records would help their chances of getting in, it of course has had the ironic effect of potentially excluding their induction forever.

He’s from Dolton which the South Side of Chicago (where Leroy Brown lived) which is all White Sox people. Wrigley Field is on the North side which is home to all the Cubbies (like me, what fandom I have).

Thanks! Same thing in NYC. I’m from the Bronx, where despite them having moved from Brooklyn to LA in 1958 the Dodgers were always the enemy, and vice versa. But there was that exception in the 1963 World Series when Sandy and Don mowed down the Yankees. Even though I suppose many wouldn’t admit it, it was poetic justice a long time coming. Of course, as usual Giuliani has his head screwed on backwards, being a Yankee fan despite being originally from Brooklyn!

Even though as you know I’ve lived in LA for a long time I have a good friend that I know from out here who is originally from Brooklyn and I once asked him whether he thought Jackie Robinson was out or safe in that controversial steal of home plate in the 1955 World Series. His answer: what do you think?

Whether Joe Jackson really helped fix the 1919 World Series has remained a point of dispute for over a century. Joe played nearly flawless baseball. He hit .375 for the series, the highest on either team. He had twelve hits (a World Series record which stood for nearly 50 years before it was broken). He collected six RBIs and accounted for 11 of the 20 White Sox runs. He didn’t commit a single error in the field in the eight games, and he threw out five Reds baserunners from the outfield. Oh, and he hit the only home run in the series. For either team.

Joe told The Sporting News in 1942: “Regardless of what anybody says, I was innocent of any wrong-doing. I gave baseball all I had. The Supreme Being is the only one to whom I’ve got to answer. If I had been out there booting balls and looking foolish at bat against the Reds, there might have been some grounds for suspicion. I think my record in the 1919 World Series will stand up against that of any other man in that series or any other World Series in all history.”

He was an incredible pitcher no doubt but Roger Clemens Lied About Steroid Use, Jury Told. Tried twice for lying to Congress about steroid use, the first time resulting in a mistrial and the second time acquitted. Like I said above, it is true for most, if not all, of them, that if they had just played it straight their records prior to any steroid use would have been good enough for the Hall of Fame, but now probably none of them will ever get in because their reputations are too tainted to get the requisite votes, regardless of whether or not their alleged lies or alleged use of performance enhancing drugs is ever proven. Again, it’s the ultimate irony that what they probably thought would give them an advantage for induction has ended up doing the opposite.

Tom Thibodeau just took the New York Knicks to the Eastern Conference finals, the deepest playoff march in 25 years for a franchise that re-emerged as a contender after he became their coach.

For that, he was fired.

In the final John Wayne movie “The Shootist”, the Town Marshal is Walter Thibido (played by Harry Morgan of MASH fame).

The name may mean “bold” or “brave”, but wasn’t appreciated by team owner Mr. Dolan.
