Xfinity now including unlimited data with customer modem

I just noticed with the new Xfinity plan updates on the website today, unlimited data is included regardless of whether or not you use their gateway. It appears “xfi complete” is no longer a thing. This is amazing news for my area!

if you hit up the ai chat, you can also type in “internet usage” and it will spill out a somewhat different graph with a couple more details such as days left.

So unlimited is limited to100TB according to A1* math

*A1 is the correct term according to Secretary of Education Linda McMahon who demonstrates artificial intelligence perfectly.

I logged into my account and looked at the Internet options offered.

Every plan presented required to me to rent the modem.

I was not able to tell the site to exclude the modem rental..

I’m in Connecticut.

By default it automatically puts the Xfinity gateway in the cart. You have to scroll to the bottom to switch equipment. Option won’t be available on EPON/DOCSIS 4 tiers that require professional install.

Did not do this for me as my own modem was automatically selected.

I’m on the Select+ plan and I don’t want to change anything because I still use cable cards. It looks like I’m stuck in the data cap. Can I get out of it without affecting my cable cards?

I changed my internet online without affecting the cablecard.
Just don’t change anything on the TV side.

Perhaps some channels will stay around indefinitely. But, not all.

I have a OTA Tivo in storage for when that day comes.
I am only 8-10 miles from all the transmitters in my area and get over 30 channels with an indoor antenna.
I also have Netflix, Prime video and Paramount plus.

That will only work, if the local station owners don’t decide to shut off ATSC 1.0 completely. And force us over to ATSC 3.0 with there DRM, or put there stations behind a paywall, or subscription plan.

They MIGHT do that , but not only is that expensive in terms of licensing to the broadcaster, it’s subscription/equipment cost is one more thing to drive away customers from FREE local TV.
As the industry at the top pushes this more and more local stations are looking at streaming options instead of broadcast upgrades.

I think that’s the point of the push for ATSC 3.0 and DRM. They want to cut off the ways to get free TV and make it only through cable and streaming services that pay fees - or their own service that has ads and collects viewer data.

Right… but the result is basically cable tv over broadcast without enough bandwidth for a full upstream return channel ie the profitable side of it. we see how cable entertainment networks are plummeting in value/ being dumped from cable and satellite.
free (ad supported), local and government/community news & services were what kept Broadcast alive…all of which can now be handled over 2way data networks wired and wireless.
The disassembly of CPB and PBS shows “in the public interest” is not currently a priority.

They are doing it. Sure not all broadcasters are on board. Neither are the cable companies. BUT the only thing standing in their way is the FCC. Considering regulations are being rolled back across the board I dont expect much resistance from the FCC.

Yea they broke it, and made it worse. They removed your services tab option at the top, and removed billing from my account drop down menu on the right. Even if you use the plan tab in the middle of the page, it still doesn’t open up your services plan page. Edit: it looks like it was just a bug, everything appears to be back to normal the way it was before.
