Yes indeed. I read somewhere recently that Comcast spent like 80 billion over the last 10 years. Had they put that into a full FTTH upgrade. They wouldn’t be crying now. AT&T after 20+ years of U-Verse BS, they’re learning that if you build it, offer it, people DO want it and they WILL come. When I was on Fiber for 1.5 years, it didn’t go down for any maintenance, power outages (UPS a must here) and it just worked. There was no catching up. Got Fiber, they bring it. And at half the cost for the same or better.
Comcast on the other hand can’t match Fiber in speed, price or reliability. And they are definitely having to catch up, not being able to offer 2 Gig or better here until 2026 or later, despite me being supposed to have this by July-August of this year. How many others have they left hanging?
Me personally, before the 2018 Gig upgrade, my area was 5 years behind every upgraded area, but was still paying upgraded prices for 5 year old speeds.
Is it any wonder why the shoe is on the other foot now, and the likes of AT&T Fiber or other FTTH services are eating cable for breakfast, lunch and dinner?
Oh, and I might add, until recently, unlike Fiber, Comcast charged extra for unlimited data and/or modem rental. There’s a big loser for you if you were a tech home and didn’t have UD, you’d get hit with 200 extra on your bill every month, then they’d just stop. That was unnecessary from the start.
