GrumpyCanadian I have hardly ever been near an airport, so don’t know: is bringing food aboard permitted?
There are two things that domestic Canadians don’t have a habit of doing that you’ll see plenty of foreigners do:
1) Bring food on board, everything from sandwiches to bags of burgers from Burger King to buckets of chicken from KFC. Almost anything and everything is permitted outside of liquids.
2) Filling a checked suitcase with a literal garden. I have friends who will stuff a suitcase or more with onions, mangos, hot peppers, tomatoes, etc..
I don’t know why ‘we’ don’t do it, probably because we’ve been mentally beaten into submission by border guards but there are certain cultures who have no fears.
GrumpyCanadian The few times I have been on a plane, all that was provided was a small snack pouch
I believe the rule is 250 miles gets you a dinner and 10 hours gets you a dinner + breakfast (or more with some airlines). If I fly economy to the Middle East on Emirates to Dubai or Cairo I usually get dinner + snack + breakfast with semi-unlimited drinks which does include wine. I usually find myself having a lot of teas and coffee pre-landing.
I believe flight to Dubai you get a second snack as well and it’s a decent snack, I believe snack 1 is fruits and snack 2 is cheese and crackers. The last time I flew the meal was a decent creamy tomato chicken thing with a side of pasta but I’ve also had lamb biryani. Oh and you get dessert too. I can’t remember breakfast.
Thinking hard about it I believe the last time I flew a long Air Canada flight I had some kind of wrap which was ‘okay’ and I think before that I had chicken with mashed potatoes and peas & carrots but in between it was pretzels and no breakfast.
