Air travel in Canada has become substantially worse since covid in all areas from customer service to added fees to in-flight service to hidden charges
bjlockie Is it due to increased profit or higher operating expenses?
I don’t think so. From what I’ve seen on indeed.com and Reddit, Westjet customer facing employees are paid less than Air Canada but Westjet seems a bit better, definitely friendlier.
Back in the old days Air Canada personnel would do everything they could to get you on your flight, they pop in to see if anyone was on a nearly departing flight to help you along if CATSA’s security screens were holding up the line and push you ahead of the line, they’d stick you on a cart and race you to your flight if you were a little bit late, they’d help you if you were lost and confused, etc..
Something happened around covid-19 where Air Canada employees stopped giving a shit, they became rude, wouldn’t help you if you were stuck, wouldn’t listen to you if they misunderstood your paperwork, and you sure as shit better be early because they’re not going to help you anymore.
The worst staff experiences I’ve ever had were with Air Canada and it’s very pronounced at Pearson in Toronto. I feel like the most precise words I could use are entitled, condescending, and contemptuous.
You can see evidence of this if you start searching for news stories of how they treat minors who are bumped because of oversold flights, something Air Canada did not previously have a history of doing.
