HFB1217 I do still have one because of the sheer number of titles available, but I have my concerns about Kindle devices. In particular, they have stubbornly resisted any adoption of open-standard formats; it is all proprietary AZW, with their own DRM. This can eventually create problems for those of us with sizeable libraries if they decide to exit the e-reader business without opening the format.
Also, they are one of the guilty monstrosities who have removed purchased books from customers’ libraries. They did ultimately also issue refunds, but that isn’t the point. In the case of paper books, no matter how I buy it, or from where, once I trade money for book, it’s mine; nobody can simply walk up to my shelf and take it back because of some rights dispute or disagreement over royalties (or even in the case it was inappropriately distributed). The same model should apply to e-readers, but clearly doesn’t.
