We had a scheduled maintenance update last night. I got up and my speeds are terrible, and I noticed they had changed the Modem software from CGM4981COM_ 7.9p15s1 to CGM4981COM_8.0p4s1_PROD_sey. Anyone else have any good experiences on the new software? I will reboot the modem later as the wife works from home.

crucialcolin Btw how was your XG1v4 in terms of noise level?

Never a problem - but I got it soon after they were released and kept the same one for 4+ years. (No pets, home usually closed and air conditioned, so not that much dust) They probably don’t age well much longer than that or deal with dusty conditions.

We kept our XG1v4 up til it died, then went with 2 Wireless Xi6 boxes, no issues to report with those.

XG1v4 had problems at times with freezing, picture issues at times. Dvr portion was used a ton daily, I was surprised it lasted from 2018 to 2025 honestly, Townhome a bit more dusty than old apartment, but I dusted it weekly for long time

Yeah that’s what concerns me. Whoever refurbishes Xfinity or Vantiva equipment doesn’t seem to have the best QC.

We’ve had our v3 from 2016 - 2026 since brand new a few months after release and it’s still going strong despite having had two corgis that heavily shed dog hair frequently lying nearby it’s whole life.

kmax I recieved this update a week or so ago. after a forced reboot
seems stable after 8 days uptime, stats work and update reliably.

hope they put the same effort into cleaning up the phone app

Seems a little better at RAM management as well.

System Uptime: 7 days 21h: 49m: 25s
DRAM Available Memory: 87 MB (but it stays around 100MB for longer)
Refreshed Page, and it went up to 88 MB. So freed up memory.

What is wrong with the phone app? It actually has gotten a bit less buggy for me over the past few years. (Android). But If you have any issues, I would like to hear them.

Mostly minor bugs
telling me it can’t load/ update app, but can’t every complete it…. then works fine for hours, days, a week before repeating.
also the data usage graph in the app shows TBs as GBs at the top, TB’s in the bar chart
The monthly email does show it correctly
also note it shows march complete and the new month as MAY ?
In a few monthes it will show 2 Mays, with no april look at the month sequnce in my screenshot

minor stuff, but hard to say what other minor glitches represent larger errors
It definatly gets updated and improved continously
just not perfect yet

That is weird - mine (iphone) shows April as the upcoming month. Maybe it’s an android glitch?

lesmikesell It will show up the day before the billing cycle ends. I think it has something to do with the meter operating on UTC time instead of your local time zone. My X1 box also does the same thing in the “My Account” settings when viewing my data usage. And yes, all customers have a meter, regardless of plan.

EDIT: Oh never mind, I see that @Tshirt ’s shows May instead of April. Xfinity Bug then lol.

But yes, I have noticed that the meter shows the upcoming month even before 12:00 am on the 1st of the upcoming month local time.

Now I just need to eventually get my signal tilt issue resolved with channel 194 at 957 mhz(one of the OFDM).

It’s amazing how slow and methodical they are with new software releases on one hand but on the other they have the most obvious bug ever in the history of computing persist for over 18 months.

Moffetts low priority issue to them, being that it was just a UI issue and did not impact performance. Had the bug prevented the gateway from actually bonding to DOCSIS channels, it would have been noticied and fixed ASAP. (Firmware rollback)

Yeah like the Xfinity TV streaming app. I feel like it still needs a lot of work plus they haven’t released it to generic Android/Google TV yet. You would think that would be a priority as they wouldn’t have to invest as much into STB upkeep(think supply chain logistic and refurbishment costs in particular). Although one could argue all those $14 /month box fees are a significant revenue source.

There’s gotta be some behind-the-scenes story about that. They announced that they would have a version for Sony TV’s years and years ago and never actually did. Someone is still holding a grudge about broken promises or refusing to pay a bribe, or something like that. It doesn’t make any business sense at all either to snub Sony or omit a generic Android/google app especially when they already have the firestick app that would work. You can chromecast to a TV from a PC or android phone as a last resort but I think that only carries stereo audio.

Yeah I saw one rumor that entire group of employees working on the streaming apps for various platforms was only about 20-25 employees with the entire project severely underfunded. Each platform had a different team with a varying amount of employees/funds to work with. It was suggested Apple TV got most of the resources with Roku being a close second. Android team supposedly only had 3 to 4 dedicated employees stuffed in some random basement somewhere. Eventually the corp office stopped sending them paychecks so they just stopped all work and up an left the company.

Anyways that’s the story I heard several years ago (Possibly on DSLReports).

My roomba disconnected from wifi yesterday and would not reconnect until after I restarted the Xb8 gateway. I’ve seen that behavior from other devices before but not for years. I wonder if they broke something in the gateway software.

I’ve had that sort of behavior happen a couple of times with my XB7 and my TP-Link archer a9 but it was hardwired. Also with the TP-Link operating as either double NAT or as an access point. It was a bit of pain to pull the XB7 power chord when ever it did that. So far the X8 hasn’t exhibited the same phenomenon but then I haven’t had it all that long.

Also I have heard with WiFi on the XB8 sometimes WPA 3 causes issues with IoT devices(might be a setting worth checking)
