From a science fiction perspective the first episode was pretty good, strong start to the season. Second episode was ‘okay’, more of an action episode for fans but not really big on the cerebral sci-fi.
I’ve always been curious why Rick and Morty seemed to have peaked with ‘smart people’ sci-fi in the earlier seasons and I can see a lot of the writers for episodes in the first three seasons haven’t written anything since then. It’s a shame because the show really belted out some fresh sci-fi ideas that other TV shows haven’t given us, primarily because of the creativity that a cartoon medium can allow for.
