Update on June 26, 2025: Plans have reverted to 300, 500, 1000, 2000. But, now the gateway and unlimited data are included. Bye bye 1.2TB usage cap. I’d Had Comcast linked to my bank account when resubscribed in 2018. Before that another provider at other residence for years, and At&t DSL for many years at the former residence back then.

Same goes for my T-Mobile Cell
Never any issues, get the Autopay Discounts, and all is good, i still review the charges way early in the month, any problems seen, then contact and deal with it, and so far there hasn’t been any issues at all

Ohh, Well up to last year I didn’t have a debit card myself, but always found a way to autopay somehow for services I use.

If didn’t have one now, id myself get a card that could load cash on, and use that for autopay for any services wanted to use.

I was using gift cards to renew Microsoft office 365 every year til last year

I don’t keep an active account. I only used it when needed. Takes about 10 minutes to get up and running using my own modem. I would only use it for a couple days and cancel.

Why do I have to be an “active member” of a bulletin board to find out about Comcast pricing that Comcast employees do not tell me about when I call about that very same topic?

I do appreciate to information presented on bulletin boards, but, why does (did?) Comcast seem to hide that important from me?

I wonder why?

When you ask people to explain exactly why, many have trouble exactly describing it.

The biggest issue with all ISPs seems to be cancellation. You have to call and argue with their retentions department just to cancel your service, when it should just be a button click on their website.

That’s not unique to cable companies, my family had to do the same with AT&T DSL also.

Otherwise, we’ve had no issues with Comcast.

Man-of-Leisure I’d guess it has to do with Xfinity probably has had the largest amount of exclusive provider areas in the country. And when people have no choices, they almost always find reasons to hate what they are being forced to have regardless of quality. It is just the nature of the beast. People who have choices will be happier, even with a lesser quality service, because it was their choice to use it. They are more likely to look for reasons to like their choice than hate their choice as they want to feel justified in their choice.

At&t fiber is hated in areas where they are the exclusive option, as just another example.

100% of homes in the US used to be connected by landline phone by AT&T originally, then whatever local spin-off company you ended up with.

Most/all of those companies offered DSL internet at one point, but most of them didn’t upgrade to fiber everywhere yet.

The phone companies have been pretty lazy with upgrading to fiber.

Our city is getting Metronet fiber this summer. That should give Comcast some competition.

When Father was alive back in (Time i was alive and got to spend time with Father-1980-2000) since worked for Michigan Bell, Ameritech, SBC, Then AT&T briefly before got sick. I still have my sbcglobal.net email and att.net email addys lol, mostly used for signing up for sites i don’t want possible junk going to Outlook.com or Comcast mail lol

We had every Phone company product offered back then at the original house lived in

DSL all the way til 2014 lol, then finally got on Cable Internet lol, amazed at my older self how i managed to do so much on that slow dsl lol, from video conferencing, alot of downloads, a few uploads to Skydrive later Onedrive, Skype voice over IP calls alot in 2007 lol, Netmeeting video conferences, Youtube Webcam feature for a while. SecondLife starting in early 2008 lol.

Though nowadays very very happy with my Comcast Gigabit Plan!!, Sure might be more speed than i even need haha, but its fine for now lol, but when contract is up–might decide to go down to 600Mb/35 Upload–but will see

Current customer. 2100/300 (original was 1200/35). 2 year promo: XB8, unlimited data. Expires Sept. 2025. I don’t need 2100 and if I could drop the price/speed, I’d be happy. West division.

Via Reddit, attempted either the new customer 1 year 1100/300 contract for $50 or the 5 year 1100/300 for $65. Both refused.

The only promotion I have access to on your account for Gig speed is our new 5-year promotional pricing ($109/mo, including xFi Complete for 60 months). Of course, this rate comes down to $99/mo with your Automatic Payments and Paperless billing Discount (APPD) of $10 by using a bank account. I don’t see any other promotions for existing customers at your location, for this particular speed, so you may have been looking at new customer promotions when you saw $50/mo.

So, a current customer cannot get the 5 year promo that was the advertised new customer price. Even though there’s been reports that you can do it. I suspect it’s entirely hit or miss. But Reddit this time refused.

I’m assuming I’ll have to do the stupid wait til it expires/threaten to cancel bullshit we’ve all had to do in the past.

I really, really wish I had another option where I live.

Yea it’s definitely hit and miss, from what I’ve been reading on reddit. Comcast is still pulling out there old playbook sometimes, when it comes to bending over existing customers for the 5 year promo price lock, doesn’t surprise me.

bigcoda Bleh. That’s unfortunate (but not unsurprising) to hear. I’m just getting caught up on the details of the 5 year promotion; If I could get it at the new customer price, I’d take it in a heartbeat. Especially since it would save on the cost of upgrading to a mid-split modem.

Edit: And speaking of which, I just struck out. Drats! Compared to the 5 year price lock for new customers, Comcast wants to charge me over $2000 extra over the same timeframe!

Metronet is currently installing fiber in my area. There is a work crew with a Ditch-Witch a block away putting the cable in the ground. This should give Comcast some competition. At first glance Metronet appears a bit cheaper but I’d have to compare all the rates. They can provide phone service but do not have a TV package.
