Thought I'd start a new thread for suggesting functionality and not clog up the "Suggestions for additional forums" thread. How about embedding YT and other videos, twitter feeds, etc. Currently I can post links but embedding is much better.

SLC_96 Doesn't a "news" front page just need to be made up of simple HTML? (Except for news links and "static" links, to the forum itself, etc.) The landing page of DSLR always looked pretty much the same except for the daily news links.

I'm not so sure of that - i think they'd have welcomed tech-savvy members. As well, they may be less heavily trafficked than they used to be. I even thought SLC might welcome a break. 😉

px_eliezer_ I'll typically start at "ALL DISCUSSIONS" ---> "LATEST", and that way can see lots of things I might be interested in that I would not otherwise have noticed. It really doesn't take too long to skim down the list if a person is doing it once or twice a day.

I find that to be like a firehose, too much to sort.

I agree having a news page will make us more DSLR like, but I will be honest: I had not used it in years. DSLR was one of my "home" tabs that opened with my browser and I had to set to favourites where I could see what forum areas had new posts. I rarely ventured from my favourites for years as well.

A "news" front page can indeed be simple HTML. At first, I used to check the front / home page of DSLReports quite regularly. Like Donero, I eventually bookmarked my favorite forums and rarely strayed from that.

I'd have rather had a solution that was free, and worked right away with no tweaking necessary. I also prefer to have threads visible at all times in the left frame, by section and thread title. It is a far superior way of doing it.

Right now, there is a lot of wasted space on the page, that could be used for content. I am not sure if this software is capable of utilising that, at least not for free.

You are missing the point. Why would someone want to start a forum, then merge with someone else who has complete control of it?

I do as well, but cannot make use of what we have here unless I open multiple tabs, which I prefer not to do.

Donoreo Have you tried following the tags you are interested in and viewing the Following page? Just make sure you have the Following Tags option selected. You can change the default in user settings.

[deleted] If you want all "threads" visible all of the time, move your mouse to the left of your screen, the same list of discussions from which you entered will pop out. You can keep the list there by pressing the thumbtack.

Are you bored of the tags you are following? Visit /all to see everything.

I understand the workaround, but I don't have to do any of that with Beehive. I can choose All Discussions from a dropdown, or Unread, Unread Today, Unread "To Me", 2 days ago, 7 days ago, Subscribed, Started by Me, Started by a Friend, High Interest, Unread High Interest, I've Recently Seen, I've Recently Ignored, Polls, Sticky Threads...

I don't have to Follow or Subscribe until I want to, rather than being forced to do it. If I don't like a section, I can collapse it at will. If I click that in error, I can get back to All Threads with one click.

This is why a frame-based forum is so navigable, and so easy to use. There's also a word filter if someone doesn't like the language some people use.

Nested forum groupings please. "I asked Mr. Google" about this. In Flarum the feature you want is called "Child Tags", not to be confused with "Secondary Tags". See https://discuss.flarum.org/d/35204-how-to-create-nested-secondary-tags for details. The Broadband Bulletin main page is becoming rather unwieldy (75+ forums/tags). Breaking it up into "US ISPs", "Canadian ISPs", etc, etc, would de-clutter it. Even just one level down would be a major improvement. I made a draft list some time ago, but I can't find it anymore.
