Thought I'd start a new thread for suggesting functionality and not clog up the "Suggestions for additional forums" thread. How about embedding YT and other videos, twitter feeds, etc. Currently I can post links but embedding is much better.

We had tags nested previously but it caused other issues. The way we have it set up now is all-things-considered approach.

InstaGator I think a news front page will help the site feel better.

px_eliezer_ There actually is one discussion floating around with two tags already. I will reconsider the 1 tag limit.

To Admin. & whoever... I hope you don't consider this presumptuous, rather just a thought i had, and probably a very naieve one at that. There's an active xenforo-based tech forum whose members seem sorta similar (generationally & IQ) to the members on this forum. So i was thinking, since that's already established, whereas this board is quite new, perhaps the BBB admin. and members would like to migrate there - maybe ask its admin. to tack on broadband-topics onto their forum.

I know this is way out, and i should probably bite-the-dust, skedaddle (or however the saying goes)

From this point, i'd prefer to only respond through PM. That's if anyone's interested & if eNotification of PM is functional at my end.

The BIG point that you are missing is that just as the old DSLR forum was about much more than "DSL", this Broadband Reports Forum is about much more than "Broadband".

I am a very distant relative of the director of "Casablanca", and I'd like to remind you of a line from that film, when the police inspector says:

"But everyone's having such a good time."

Let those of us who want to make a go of this forum, go ahead with it.

I wouldn't recommend that. That forum is owned and run by someone else, so adding to an existing forum is going to muddy both.

Another consideration is that Xenforo is close enough in appearance to this one, so it would be a parallel move with a probable total loss of administrative control, and this forum could possibly be at odds with that forum's administrative goals.

It is really only the software choice that needs to be different.

Imagine being able to view topics and thread titles in a left frame (currently wide open) and being able to easily view them either by:

All Discussions
Today
Unread
Unread "To Me"
Unread Today

and several other options (about 13) to make navigation easier. Also, a way to select numbered messages within a thread, go directly to the beginning or to the end. Forum stats visibility, along with visitors, number of members, text size increase with one click, and user controls.

Xenoforo is not like this. It is a more traditional forum with traditional forum layout and navigation tools.

It may be more navigable than this, but it takes mouse clicks to get to where you want to be. More mouse clicks than I like. Do you have a link to an existing forum?

It was a well-meaning but misguided suggestion. I can't think of any scenario where that works well for anybody, and I have seen a few forum splits and cessations before. Usually, multiple people start forums with fractions of the members that were there before.

Unfortunately, the whole forum model was hurt badly by "(anti) social media" platforms, and forums have lost members to the shiny objects of FB, X, etc. and tried to adapt to that, but it isn't the same.

The big thing lacking in forums today is frames, being so much more navigable. This style is more like a Reddit thread, and unfortunately, sometimes people get lost in it, unless it isn't particularly busy.

Maybe some further tweaks can/will be made.

I have to say though, I really like THIS forum better than the old DSLR, and certainly better than Reddit etc.

I'll typically start at "ALL DISCUSSIONS" ---> "LATEST", and that way can see lots of things I might be interested in that I would not otherwise have noticed. It really doesn't take too long to skim down the list if a person is doing it once or twice a day.

I don't think that this new forum will get QUITE so busy as to make that too congested.

OTOH, if a person wants to focus on just one or two topics, they can just go to their preferred Tags.
