Thought I'd start a new thread for suggesting functionality and not clog up the "Suggestions for additional forums" thread. How about embedding YT and other videos, twitter feeds, etc. Currently I can post links but embedding is much better.

Donoreo I was actually agreeing with you that Xenforo is great software, so that's why i asked why you didn't post it on this thread (because this thread is the "suggestion" thread). Look, in any case, my comment was moot cuz even if i was using DSLR previously, i realize i didn't belong either there, or here, as i'm not naturally technical. I.E. even if BBB would be switched to Xenforo, its threads would still be way over my head.

minni You belong where you want to be, the whole reason places like this exist is for people to learn about things they might otherwise have no clue about, and for the people in the know to help those who don't know. I have seen what I consider a very smart technical person that can do everything computer related , but ask them how much air should be in their tires or how do you change spark plugs or what temp for a cake to bake and they have no clue. So relax don't be so hard on yourself for any lack of knowledge about some things.

Donoreo, i may as well report a bug to the Admin. because last week when i conducted a search for "xenforo" (to see if it was already suggested by someone besides me) it yielded the below screenshot, which may explain why i confused you with HiVolt.

But today, the search for xenforo failed to yield it. So i suppose that's a bug?
However, i found it manually, on the thread title: HELLO (Canadian forum)
Also, btw, i agree that navigation is clunky. And in fact i posted soon after i'd landed here, that CTRL-HOME to quick-jump to top-of-page doesn't work here, and ditto PageUp PageDown.

Not in the same way, due to spoon-feed pagination, no - they only work within what's displayed.
Which may change ( showing more lines forward/backward ) when they're used. Tedious.
( Q: Is number of lines per screen/page adjustable? )

Most browsers have Forward and Backward controls for navigation - flarum adds another. Confusing.

I did a search when you posted as well, did not find that post. I just pulled out a couple of forum software names that I knew (but as I later said I have been a moderator on a Xenforo system and it is good).

minni Even if you are not naturally technical, you'll be surprised how much you will learn just by skimming topics - even minor ones - that may catch your eye. I learn something almost every day - even about things that I'm not particularly interested in - and my brain hasn't exploded [yet].

Hot Forum Topics

I didn't monitor specific forums on DLSReports, except when I posted something or was looking for something specific. What I did was look through the Hot Forum Topics once a week for things that looked interesting.

Each DISCUSSION TOPIC can have multiple TAGS.

Just noticed this, it is a good feature considering that topics can overlap areas.

So for example if there is a security issue at Microsoft, it can be tagged as MICROSOFT and as SECURITY.

This does NOT duplicate the topic, merely provides more ways to find it.

The front page just seems like it's so much wasted space for the various forums. Is there a way to combine some of the old and new together? Some RSS feeds to generate news topics (or someone posting them) and limiting it to a few stories a day. And I always glanced at the side to see the trending topics on whole site. Maybe using the same functions of this forums software with Popular, Newest or Latest.

I know if you click the All Discussions it will give you the forums on the side with the latest forum posts, but the landing page here is just scroll after scroll.

Maybe something like this:

InstaGator Yes, I signed up to say this. News was important on the other site. Sure if you want something specific or have an issue you would go to the forums, but the news was basically giving you some insight on what is going on with technology, networking, deals, etc. I am sure you could have multiple categories and have a few people find things to put in these on top of RSS feeds to auto populate them.

I am not sure what forum platform this is, but you should be able to have nested categories.

Some stats: The stickies currently occupy 25% of the posts on page 1. They take up 40% of the pixels on page 1. Five scroll-ticks to get past them.
