Thought I'd start a new thread for suggesting functionality and not clog up the "Suggestions for additional forums" thread. How about embedding YT and other videos, twitter feeds, etc. Currently I can post links but embedding is much better.

Let me edit: I can understand the button, but my argument is that it brings noise.

What about the like button... enable/disable? Personally, I never touch these buttons (in any forum).

I don't have a problem with the likes. However, I suppose a "Like" could be modified to show a "Like" count number, and when clicked on could show a dropdown of users who then liked the post? Sound familiar? Just like DSLR. Perhaps a user account setting could be added to enable/disable the like function completely from showing up globally across the site. Sort of like how DSLReports.com had an option to disable "smileys".

Now you want to disable smileys too, right? 🙃

Yes, but the user can still have the button in their user settings. Clicking it will flag the admin and he/she can delete the account.

The thing I never liked about that system was the person getting the likes was the only one who could see who actually sent them was. If I hovered over your likes, it didn't show anything. If they were my likes, I could hover and see who sent them.

Don't know why they were hidden...

Regarding the "like" button - In certain forums, it doesn't work. In this case, I think it does. You need to have a way for members to show their appreciation or to agree with a post.

Please don't enable any down icons or downvoting. That creates a negative environment and encourages contention which lowers the quality of the site. It's also more work for the moderators.

Page Footer

We really, really need to have a page footer containing links to a privacy policy, terms & conditions, and the (forthcoming) community guidelines. A link to "About us" would also be helpful. The website looks incomplete / broken without a footer.

It's important. Not only because readers need to find the information (and they expect to find this!), but that the European privacy laws require websites to have a privacy policy. It's easy enough to find one via Google.

You'll need dedicated pages for the above links, which I believe requires an extension.

One thought: At some point the site will require maintenance that may take it offline for a time. We need some method to inform members and the general public of this activity. Perhaps a banner or a redirect to a persistent page. A banner for other notifications would also be useful.

This is the lowest of the low, low, low, low priority suggestions I could possibly make. Allow animated gif format avatars.

When I edited my profile here after signing up to customize, I used my old animated gif format avatar from DSLR. This new site's software was smart enough to take just a (the first?) frame from the file to make the .png format it made that you see here, which was quite useful. That would imply some smarts in the code. Maybe it is too hard to limit file sizes or other content of an animated gif. If it is significant to know, the file size of my animated gif is 3477 bytes. For those who may not recall, I animated goofy's gloved hand that comes into the frame, pushes the hat over, and scratches his head in puzzlement.

GeekGirl1 I am thinking it is very unlikely to ever happen. Someone already went to a lot of difficulty to get the circular biscuit cutter view of whatever image is provided. But, it costs nothing to make a suggestion. 🙂

I am struggling with navigation. It is clunky. I really would like to see a list of forums/tags(ideally my favourites) and the number of unread new posts, all on one page, I do not want to see the posts until I go into that forum/tag. That is just the start, but once in looking at posts, going back is, again, clunky, but I am having a hard time writing how.
