dslwanter Good point. Seems pretty obvious that they’d have a NC-based contractor, but didn’t even think about it.
After still seeing no OUPS ticket for my neighborhood yet, I talked to Kinetic again this week. Looks like the project for my neighborhood has been pushed back to December. Using their phrasing, my address should be serviceable “by December.” We’ll see. I’m assuming all the supply chain issues with fiber optics are the culprit. But I guess it’s possible that the cool spring might also be delaying them.
Disappointing news, but can’t say I’m totally surprised. I was hoping to have Kinetic installed in the next 1-2 months and only had some confidence that it is really coming soon because of the lines they’ve already pulled outside the neighborhood. Another year is ticking by while altafiber still hasn’t updated their website and it’s unclear whether either of the now-T-Fiber subsidiaries will be expanding to my neighborhood.
We’re still planning to move, and the new house is supposed to be serviceable with muni fiber around late summer/early fall this year from what I’ve been told by the city. It’ll probably be serviceable before we’re ready to move, actually. I have more confidence in that estimate since the underground work was already done and I’ve seen them actually deliver on time with their other installs that were more complex.
Waiting for fiber internet has become a test of my patience like almost nothing else in the past decade.
