Jed1 there is an Arris KB article on the Password, so it’s initially set by them. I guess the operator could override if they want, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
I think the profile changes are normal responses to impulse noise and the signal environment. I think the issue is they don’t update the firmware on customer owned modems so they tend to be buggy with all the changes.
The leased modems (CM8200, CM9200) are kept up-to-date so any bug fixes that have to do with the constant profile changes may assist in keeping the connection stable.
My opinion is, they are shooting themselves in the foot by not updating the firmware on customer owned modems. If they wanna waste money (gas, time, equipment) on truck rolls, I guess that’s their call.
A development a few miles from where I live has one call markings and lots of digging going on. Construction manager claims it’s for Service Electric fiber. We’ll see if that’s the case. I’m hearing this third hand, friend of someone who is in the area getting all dug up.
