Hi, I'm picking up where we left off at DSL Reports. This thread is for anything Service Electric related. I even added the other division so this thread will cover all the Service Electric divisions. SECV is Hazleton, Sunbury, and Birdsboro and SECTV is Allentown, Wilkes Barre, and Phillipsburg NJ. Hopefully everybody from the old site will find their way here.

cypherstream I agree. Definitely some long-term evolution getting into the system. Yes, the signal is still in specs but there is a leak somewhere and it should be located and fixed. They seem to be trying to avoid this with the idea that the system will hold up until fiber gets here. The downside to this decision is at some point there will be a failure, and a number of houses will go offline and then something will have to be done.
Neighbor did tell me that someone was here looking for the leak, but I don’t know if it was found and if and when it will be fixed.

I saw fiber cable in cable hangers and rollers on rt 422 eastbound in Amity / Douglassville. Sure looked like the hangers were attached to SECV strand. Possible fiber build out.

Yup theres two fiber cables going up to SECV’s strand. Utility Work sign up. Seems like home base for the third party contractor is right before Aydin Displays headed east on 422.

The development 1 mile over from mine is all marked up. Contractors installed orange conduit and new light green grooves pedestals. Some double wide and some single sized next to existing smooth light green SECV and dark green Comcast.

They are installing SECV fiber. Can’t believe it’s only a mile from me. If my township is slated to be done by 2026 sometime, makes sense they are starting in some of the earlier Comcast expansions (2022-2023) areas. It’s a fairly big township so lots of ground to cover.

I really hope when they complete that development that they work their way over to where I live.

There’s lines pained on our street today. White arrows, a white Y + B, green, blue, yellow lines.

With SECV fiber going in a mile from me, I wonder if we’re next?

I don’t know else it could be. I follow fastbridge fiber and no mention of them coming here. I don’t think Verizon is installing FIOS any time soon. Fingers crossed I can start documenting a FTTH rollout!

Received a letter on our door this morning from Southern Cable Construction with a notice they have been contracted by Service Electric to install new “Cable/Fiber Optics” in our area.

Two months ago SE said there is nothing scheduled for my area, so this was a nice surprise. We live in Riverside.

I saw UGI (our gas company) out two blocks down with a yellow spray paint wand device marking gas lines.

I wouldn’t imagine that it would be too long after marking out all the underground utilities before construction starts. I mean you have to get this done before the lines fade away right? Unless this is just exploratory marking to design and plan the route, then another round of marking for actual digging…

I did document the Comcast build out here and once you saw the lines painted in a section of the development, it was usually within a week or two that the crews came in with the heavy equipment to dig and directional bore to pull conduit.

Exciting times Cypher!! I occasionally ask my Mom if she’s seen any activity but since SECV told me they wouldn’t get her til’ later this year I’m not expecting it. They stopped the initial fiber buildout about 1/2mi from her

SeattleMatt73 A block down its like a war zone. The cable’s gone in and out a few times too. The longest outage was about 30 minutes.

So many diggers and orange conduit. Its reminiscent of when Comcast built into our Neighborhood in 2022.

We just had another small outage. It came back but one of the channels is at 36 db SNR now. Most are 39-40 though. They are a block down from me cutting up part of the street. Lots of dust in the air. Its wild to see how they orchestrate this.

They are replacing every tap pedistal with one of these light green double wide, taller pedestals by Charles industries. It’s big enough to house the coax plant and make room for the future fiber network.

Cool to see the pickup truck pull the conduit through the ground when its attached to chains. Same way Comcast’s crews did this in 2022.

But boy are the new double wide almost 3 ft tall pedestals ugly.

They definitely disturbed cables doing this work. The Power levels aren’t much different, but the SNR is noticeably lower after some of the work.

cypherstream This small change in SNR has never happened to you before after a reboot? What if you reboot now? If it changes after a reboot, adaptive equalization can explain it.

fmd I could try that later. I figured when the signal went off then back on, it would have reset. During the outage the only thing on the signal was a channel 0, some insane low power figure.
