That’s a tough call on that one.
My opinion is that it was kind of a bad call on the goal. On one hand, it does look like the puck completely crossed the line, based on the size of the puck and where it was. So you can sort of make the inference. But you just can’t see. The big issue is the refs called it a goal on the ice. That’s what is an unacceptable call. They were in no position to see the puck cross the line. 10 different camera angles can’t show it, so a ref standing on the faceoff dot can’t be able to make the call.
Because of that, the video evidence had to overturn the goal call. And you really don’t have definitive proof. The puck is past Jarry. It looks like it could be 100% over the line. But his skate blade is covering what you need to see to make the definitive call.
So the call on the ice controlled things. If they said no goal, which in my opinion they should have because I don’t believe they could have seen it go in, then the video evidence wouldn’t have been enough to call it a goal. Since it went the other way, there was no video evidence to say that it did not go in.
