So we’re getting up to the quarter season mark. The season is shaping up, and a few things that seemed like odd starts or anomalies are settling in.
I think there’s the old stat that most teams that aren’t in playoff position by US Thanksgiving don’t make the playoffs.
Florida, Washington and Toronto are near the bottom of the East. Montreal is near the top. Pittsburgh, an expected draft lottery candidate, is near the top. One team that’s had a turnaround is Boston. They lost their first 6 games, but are 8-2-0 in their last ten and tops in the Atlantic.
In the West, Edmonton has barely cracked the playoffs. They’re tied with Chicago. Anaheim is near the top of the Pacific.
MacKinnon and McDavd are again at the top of the scoring list. But in his second season Celebrini looks to have established himself as a star. At 39 Malkin is having a better season than last, putting up more than a point per game, and tied for 3rd in assists.
