I considered him to be an overrated defencement from his Nashville days. He was insulated by a tight defensive system and an elite level Pekka Rinne back then. Now he isn’t.

I think that would be an issue for the NHL in terms of parityu. But the NHLPA is about player’s salaries. The LTIR-during the playoffs doesn’t impact player salaries. And keeping player salaries high is important for the PA because those comparables are how other players get raises.

I don’t remember exactly how it works. But bonuses do count against the cap. So you can’t just bonus everything to skirt the salary cap.
I think signing bonuses count immediately. And performance bonsues (like a win-the-cup bonus) would have some type of reserve to prevent teams from going over the cap.
