Leafs have not renewed the contract of Team President Brendan Shanahan.
It wasn’t all bad, under his leadership the franchise recovered to being a perennial playoff team for 9 straight years, and were blessed with a great young core. However also under his leadership the contracts of these young players were mismanaged and it has cost the team dearly in the past 3-4 years with the flat cap, not being able to add the players necessary to make the team better.
Looked like it might finally break thru this year, however it was not to be.
