A lot of it is the defense though.
It depends a bit on the team. Really good teams (see Chicago with Niemi) can manage. I’m not sure if there are any teams that were that dominant anymore.
But, even prime Crosby/Malkin Penguins couldn’t get out of the first round when Fleury would muddy the crease in the playoffs.
I think a good team can win if the goalie can just make the saves they are expected to make. But they cannot win if the goalie is regularly spotting the other team a goal or two.
But for a team like Carolina, they aren’t good enough that they can’t ahve their goalie outright steal a few games.
Sounds like Kotchekov is getting the start for Carolina.
