He even opened an Ice Rink in Santa Rosa California, so us kids out there at least had exposure to and a place to play and practice Ice Hockey.

[deleted] It’s been over 10 years with this playoff format and I still hate that in the first round you have 4 teams in the entire playoffs that are either 2nd/3rd in their division automatically get eliminated. Not that they got surprised by a plucky team seeded much lower. No, they are just gone, and you erase so much of the best talent from going further in the playoffs.

Yeah i’m kinda yelling at the cloud because the Leafs have been affected by this so much.

On one hand, I agree with you. On the other, seeding doesn’t really matter for the NHL playoffs. Lower seeds in the NHL playoffs are way successful than in other sports. 8 seeds get to the finals pretty regularly(I think), and 8 seeds have won a few times.

I can’t believe how far the Panthers have come so fast. There was a 20 year stretch(Until about 5 years ago) where they never made the playoffs and South Florida was hockey purgatory. But now everybody wants to come here.🤯😀

Since you Canadians love coming down here, aren’t the Panthers sort of a Canadian team?

I’m surprised we haven’t heard about sombody taking advantage of the zero tolerance strictness of this rule and “slipping somebody a mickey”* that’s harmless but banned. Like if sombody is a waiter/waitress at a restaurant where the road team happens to be eating.

*I really wanted use that term.😂

While I can appreciate the positives in his game, I’ve taken issue with many of Marchand’s antics over the years.

Yeah they really haven’t been right since the 4 nations faceoff. They won some games coming out of it, but were really not that good, and since then the wheels fell off. They STINK defensively, the PK & PP stink, Matthews is like non factor, he may not even score 30 goals lol.

Marner has his own issues. Marner hasn’t even scored 100 points yet ever, and he’s played on the first line for the vast majority of it. And he folds like a cheap suit in the playoffs. They all do except Nylander. He’s been the most consistent playoff scorer.

He’s not in the same league as the top 10 stars in the league. They should have traded his ass 2 years ago before his no trade kicked in. Now he’s gonna fuckin walk for nothin.

Since hockey is you guys’ religion, you have to explain something to me. In the Leafs/Avalanche game, Toronto was killing a powerplay and cleared the puck. A ref mis-judged where the puck was going and fell down and the puck hit him then a Toronto player(Maybe the same one who cleared it) took the puck and went in and scored a short handed goal. It was the game winning goal. Why is it good idea for a ref to be able to effect a game(and incidentally a playoff race) like that? Why shouldn’t play be stopped immediately when the puck hits a ref? I’ll bet if that happened in the finals, the rule would be changed. Somebody’s probably gonna tell me that it’s happened a few times in the finals. Do any of you guys have an argument against changing the rule? I’m curious what that argument would be. No sarcasm at all. I’m wondering what the otherside of the argument is. In baseball, when the ball hits an umpire, the play is dead immediately and the runners stay where they are(The umpires decide which base to send them to) if I remember correctly.

Stuff happens like that more often than you think. It’s no different than the puck bouncing funny off the back boards or going off your own player’s ass into the net. Refs are a part of the game. They do an amazing job of getting out of the way. But shit happens sometimes.
