Sticking this here as I see no where else it should go. I have been using Vivaldi as my daily pretty much since they began as I was having trouble with a few sites on Firefox. There are a lot of settings in this browser that you can tweak to your liking. Although intended for general users, it is first and foremost targeted towards technically inclined users as well as former Opera users disgruntled by its transition from the Presto layout engine to a Chromium-based browser that resulted in the loss of many of its distinctive features. Despite the fact that it is also Chromium-based, Vivaldi aims to revive the features of the Presto-based Opera with its own proprietary modifications. Vivaldi replaced Firefox as the default browser on the Manjaro Cinnamon Community Edition Linux distribution. ugly95 Thanks for that yes that is how mine is with the exception Enabled Boomark Nickhames - Checked is unchecked AND Enable Frequently Visited Pages - Checked, is not even offered at all, Hopefully a fix will come soon, if it does not i will either live with it or Reinstall from scratch- yuck

Once the VPN extension is installed, it can still be removed by normal extension removal process via the usual Tools > Extensions method. None of this is necessarily intuitive for many users.

Now v7.3.3635.4. I always get a notice to update, even if I have already updated it manually beforehand. They don’t seem to be satisfied even if you’re up-to-date, still insisting upon running the install of the update you already have again.

When I open up Vivaldi, how do I make the side panel on Vivaldi always open up when I and display specifically one of the items that I have added to it?

Racerbob If you set it up to show what you want and then close Vivaldi, doesn’t it come back the same way when you restart it? Or perhaps I don’t understand exactly what you’re asking…

Correct. It is a specific extension that I have added to the browser. “Bookmarks Sidebar”.

I want this to be displayed in an open panel each time I access Vivaldi. I am trying Vivaldi once again and this time around I am pretty impressed with it. Seems to be working faster on my system now than the last time I tried it over a year ago. I like the idea of keeping my bookmarks pinned to the right side of the browser window like what is able to be done in Firefox. And I like the way Bookmarks Sidebar looks and works.

Racerbob Saw this it Might work I don’t know though:

Restart Vivaldi
Press F4 (to make the toolbar visible)
Press on an icon to open the Panel
Close the Panel by pressing the “x” (top right in the panel)
It should stick now.

Hmm. My native Vivaldi bookmarks side-panel button produces almost exactly the same thing as what you’re showing in your image and persists through Vivaldi restarts, etc. All of my other side-bar buttons, when selected, will also have their menu or data displays persist after a Vivaldi restart… so I’m not sure just why your extension would not. I’ve never tried that extension so I’m not familiar with how well it might play with Vivaldi after a restart… I do know that Vivaldi’s unique user interfacing sits on top of the chromium engine, so it’s possible the extension might not work the same way in Vivaldi as it does in Chrome. You could always try asking about it in Vivaldi’s Windows forum ( https://forum.vivaldi.net/category/32/vivaldi-browser-for-windows?page=1 ) in case some folks over there with better ideas might be able to help.

The X to close the bar is not visible like it is natively with the other standard items open in it. It is not big deal. Just an interesting quirk. I can click on the icon in the bar to open my bookmarks extension if it does not open by itself.

ugly95 I got my “menuing” fixed I think, at least it is more like before this last update, I did that by disabling the new address bar (‘omnibox’) in vivaldi://experiments suggested from here

The snapshot channel upgraded to Chromium 136.

So it has no inherited a warning about extensions the manifest V2 extensions. For now, you can ignore the warning and still use the extensions.

ugly95 Good to know saw the warning around a few extensions and thought I may have to look for an alternative backup browser on Windows (Firefox is my primary) as there isn’t extension support on Android it didn’t make any difference there where its my primary browser. Alas we are drifting back towards the bad old days where some sites just don’t play nicely with firefox anymore
