Sticking this here as I see no where else it should go. I have been using Vivaldi as my daily pretty much since they began as I was having trouble with a few sites on Firefox. There are a lot of settings in this browser that you can tweak to your liking. Although intended for general users, it is first and foremost targeted towards technically inclined users as well as former Opera users disgruntled by its transition from the Presto layout engine to a Chromium-based browser that resulted in the loss of many of its distinctive features. Despite the fact that it is also Chromium-based, Vivaldi aims to revive the features of the Presto-based Opera with its own proprietary modifications. Vivaldi replaced Firefox as the default browser on the Manjaro Cinnamon Community Edition Linux distribution. I am getting by just fine with Vivaldi. I use uBlock Lite and it blocks all of the ads for me. I also use Tampermonkey to run a couple of other extensions that I use on Facebook. I have found Vivaldi to be an adequate browser to use. It is faster than Firefox and slower than Edge, but I have found myself using it 75% of the time now.

One big improvement I notice for the first time is at least on the main Yahoo! page now there is no longer that white splash box at the top that just said Advertisement before with the ad blocker in place, so now the page view is less distracting (the blocker worked before but with this it was a little annoying). On all other browsers I use, Firefox, Chrome, Edge and Opera, that was the case before but again now is also the case with Vivaldi. A substantial improvement IMO.

takeahike I also still block whatever they block these days with spywareblaster I don’t know how effective that still is but it does not seem to cause any problems with what it blocks. But who knows just an oddity I guess

One of the developers has confirmed that they are working on improving their integrated ad block solution. They claim that their goal is to get it on par with what uBlock currently provides.

I’m giving it a try in Ubuntu Linux. Vivaldi is available as a supported package.

I’ve already installed uBlock origin.
