I am on the gig tier and it used to say 1000 Mbps down and 150 Mbps up. My account now shows 1100Mbps down and 300 Mbps up. I tested and I am indeed receiving the new speeds.

Should I Reboot Gateway?

You can try. If you have an XB7 or XB8 (or another COAM on the approved for mid-split list) you should see the higher speeds after a reboot. But the reality is that when the speed updates happen in a location sometimes a local to you issue will still limit your speeds. If you don't see the increases within a day or so contact Comcast and schedule a tech visit ("I am not receiving the speeds on my Internet tier").

If you mostly stream, or access simple web content, you likely will not notice a difference. For those who download a lot of content (some gamers, some developers), or upload a lot of content (cloud backup), you might. Some people are more than willing to wait a bit longer to save $30/mo. Some people are willing to spend $30/mo to eliminate waits. To each their own.

kmax I hope for my area they are skipping midsplit and going straight to 4.0. Depressing how slow they are moving in an area that has fiber available.

If you actually have fiber available, there are typically few reasons to not move to it. Just do it.

After Rebooting my Gateway I immediately seen the faster speed for Both Download and Upload

Does OneDrive backup later on!--Not huge files, but files that took ages on previous upload speed lol

Tomorrow i'll test out Steam Game Streaming from Wired 2.5gig Desktop to older Gaming Laptop on Wifi, it was smooth before mostly, might be even smoother now. i think lol early in the morning lol

So now the Connect More thru Gigabit Extra Tiers on Sub-Split are all getting 35 Mbps upload. You would think Comcast could give a little more upload speed for the Gigabit and Gigabit Extra tiers? Seems like Comcast is being stingy. I thought they could go up to 100 Mbps on Sub-Split?

bigcoda I would guess that comcast isn’t going to go above 35mbps on sub split. that 100mbps metric is the total upstream capacity for the entire node. To me it doesn’t seem like a good idea to allow a single user to saturate or come close to saturating the node (which isn’t hard to do at such low speeds), and im sure comcast has a similar idea. At least with mid split it’s a lot rarer for that upstream to be saturated as much, and even still, comcast doesnt give a single user all of it (I believe midsplit capacity is a bit above 500mbps, and at the moment a single user can use 350 of that)

bigcoda Agreed. We actually have the slowest plan they offer 100/20, because honestly speed doesnt matter to us, that speed works fine. The data cap however is a bit rough some months. We haven't gone over, but there are months that we use well over 90% of our data. Once we get the warnings we try to rein it in a bit.

Unfortunately, the fiber provider is Frontier...which we know where they are now.

Donut417 If speed is not a priority, why not just give Prepaid a shot? The upload is slower, but low-split postpaid is pretty slow regardless. The Unlimited Data on Prepaid has been a blessing for us with two active gamer kids. It was nice no longer having to bust our all streaming down to 720p at the router, strategically schedule big downloads, and constantly monitor data meters.

I don't think it's going to happen, it's just too much free money to give up. I posted my reasoning for this in another forum:

Data caps are huge profit, pure profit. From a recent article at LightReading, it appears that broadband data use of 1TB+/month is on the rise:

From a broader perspective, OpenVault's Q2 Broadband Insights Report (registration required) found that the monthly average data consumed by broadband subs in the period was 585.8GB, up 9.7% from the year-ago period. Additionally, the percentage of "power users" consuming 1 terabyte or more per month in Q2 2024 was 18.2%, a year-over-year increase of 16.5%.

If only 20% of Comcast's _30M residential broad band customers pay $15-25/month extra for unlimited data, that is potentially $100-150M in free revenue per month - not counting overage fees from those who don't have unlimited.

My numbers above are just esitmates, but they are probably in the ball park. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but it wouldn't surprise me if Comcast is in no hurry to deploy D4.0 when they are raking in so much unlimited data cash. I'm going to be the first one in line for D4.0, but I'm not holding my breath. We don't even have midsplit yet, and I'll keep our family on Prepaid for the unlimited data. For now, at least

smilingbob For the same reason we dont have auto pay discount. The account holder will only pay Comcast thru online bill pay thru their bank. They dont want Comcast having any credit/debit/account information. Prepaid doesnt allow that payment option. Maybe when I get my student loans paid off I can start paying for the Internet and do prepaid, but thats going to be probably by the end of next year according to my calculations.

bigcoda Moving all the standard area uploads to 35mbps upload shows they could have done that all this time.

I can tell you this does not apply to Comcast Business. I have a few sites in non-upgraded areas on 100/15. Just tested and get 105/14. In upgraded areas there is a Comcast Business plan that's 500/200 and that's the one we move to once it becomes a "next gen" area. Some area's seemed to halt all upgrades, and I have to wonder if they are now just going to wait for the FDX amplifier shipments. Since Commscope is manufacturing them now, why bother spending time (and money) putting in mid split gear with FDX is right around the corner.

bigcoda Nice! We're on the OG Prepaid (before there was Xfinity Now) and I'm happy to report that after I unplugged the XB3 (reboot did NOT work) we're receiving the x2 upload now. Tested at ₂₃₉/23.6 and pretty dang happy about that. Thanks for the chart and the inspiration to go and see.

Essential, 150 Mbps/25 Mbps is the lowest speed tier that I could pull up for Comcast Business internet in a Sub-Split area. Looks like some of your sites might be on grandfathered legacy plans. I know on the residential, Comcast was playing games with holding back speed upgrades on Legacy plans on Mid-Split. Once you switched to one of there current plans, you magically started receiving the faster upload speeds. I remember when I had the Performance 50 internet 50/5, then Comcast changed it to Performance Select 100/5 Mbps, Comcast increased my speeds to 200/5 Mbps. Comcast replaced Performance Select, with the Connect More 200 Mbps, I was still stuck at the 5 Mbps upload on the Performance Select. Comcast would not even give me the 20 Mbps upload on the Performance Select, until I switched to a modem approved for Mid-Split. And Comcast still wouldn't give me the full 100 Mbps upload, until I switched to one of the current plans. In the end I ended up switching to the Connect More, to get the full upload speeds. Here's a old chart from there last speed upgrades, you can see how there holding back the legacy plans.

bigcoda sucks on the Comcast buisness portal if I pick a site on the 100/15 plan and click the link to upgrade, it’s a form to fill out that sends to a sales rep. I guess I can email our rep next week.

Wish they had self service options.

500/200 is the sweet spot. I compared two sites in different markets.
