To be fair, classic Star Trek regularly jumped the shark with a number of absurd episodes. We were normalized with TNG, Voy, DS9, Ent, etc., but consider that we also had Abe Lincoln flying through space in an arm chair so a dragon isn’t that far removed…

InternetJeff Paramount has utterly destroyed the entire franchise. I wouldn’t bother watching anything they put out under the name “Star Trek”.

InternetJeff Star Trek isn’t hard science fiction and very often has had fanciful episodes. It’s never taken it self too seriously for more than a few episodes.

BTW, I saw dinosaurs, cowboys, and knights in the trailer, so It’s more than just dragons. This just continues the precedent set by the original series

As well the old series “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea” started out as classic SF but eventually had Blackbeard and even leprechauns.

What a great story that would have turned out to be if they came back to it later, like the episode where they came back to the liquid people “voyager crew” for a second surprise story. I looked online to see if it was ever mentioned again and Lower Decks likes to use it for jokes but we never know what happened to them.

MacLeech One can only hope the planet exploded killing them and the writer that cooked up that script.

All the star treks have left behind a number of really good plots which never lead to anything, and that show wasn’t one of them; what a fantastically terrible story. The crew could have phasered the pond and unfucked the problem but nope. At least it’s stuck in the Delta quadrant which likely will not be brought up much in the future.

No not at all. I don’t have a problem with it. It’s part of the quirkiness of Star Trek and why I like it. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, at least not for too long. Some seem offended by it though, forgetting that it’s always been part of the show.

FWIW, I liked the musical SNW episode with the Klingon boyband scene. I found it hilarious.
