It turns out to have taken the city clearing crews three passes to haul away that mess all the way up the street. Surprisingly, considering the extent of the mess, they did a pretty good job. The only exception was a pile that one guy tried adding in the street (by cleaning his driveway at the last minute), after two thirds of the job was already done.
The pile I showed earlier was too tall for their machines, and each time, some of it fell on top of the impeller housing, then back into the street. At least by the time they called the job "done", it was virtually all gone.
