Now we do have some things that tend to mitigate that trend, "save our homes" is one of them, because of that law Floridians have been shielded from rising property tax's on their homestead, increased tax's most of which are happening in the SE and Orlando high growth areas.
However once the home is sold the new owner takes on all of those tax increase's, a increase that doesn't appear in the listing as it only shows the current property tax's, many times before closing once a deal is struck and a good faith deposit has been paid, resulting in sticker shock when the buyer applies for a mortgage and discovers how much the property tax's will be.
To me that is a good thing, want to come to Florida, great now pay your share of fee's upfront so I can keep my property tax's lower taking my SMH with me when I buy another (homestead) home in Florida.
Another is the "new wheels on the road" tax, if I sell my vehicle I keep my tag and transfer it to my new vehicle avoiding paying that tax, however a person from out of state must purchase new tags and pay a $200 per vehicle fee for that privilege.
Good let the newcomer pay their fare share to use our roads too.
Another thing a lot of out of staters find out the hard way is outside of the few urban areas many counties do not provide a lot of social services or public transportation, if one wants to live out here in the sticks, where the air is clean and it is quiet and peaceful one had better have a vehicle or a large thumb to hitch hike around.
