Zenit_IIfx Comcast used the same stuff in our area. They were new to our neighborhood in 2022 at a time when nobody thought we’d ever have a choice between two cable operators. Everyone said that building a system was too expensive. Its millions maybe into the billions to build a new system from scratch over a large area, and your talking trying to take money from already established customers of other providers, so even at a mild take rate, its decades before its paid back.
Well I guess covid taught the world how important being connected is. Now Comcast is practically overbuilding as much of Pennsylvania as they can. They are using the same exact stuff in your picture. One big orange conduit and then another team comes along when its all done and pulls fiber and coax through it. P5 875 thick (almost an inch) coax was pulled in ours, along with commscope fiber. They put 3 nodes in our development in those large vented doghouses. My cable co (SECV) also has 3 nodes serving our neighborhood, and two 288ct Clearfield FDH for their PON system.
Here Comcast installed all Arris mid split with the Harmonic white nodes and Alpha XM3 power supplies with 3 car sized batteries installed.
I also am in the Unifi ecosystem. My UCG Fiber shows 100% uptime on SECV Fiber (1/1 gig package) 4ms to cloudflare, but I did put a U5G Backup for cell backup. I switched from SECV HFC to Fiber on 6/1.
I imagine at some point Comcast may come back through and swap out all the mid split stuff for FDX but who knows. There’s whole cities out there yet that never even got the upgrade from sub split. It wouldn’t be fair or sensible to upgrade us again after the system was just built in 2022 when you have systems that have been running the same way since the 90’s (sans a few node splits along the years). 2 of our sites at work in Montgomery County PA are still sub split on SA Gainmaker gear.
Nice that in your pic that node will finally get moved into the dog house where it belongs instead of screwed to the pole!
