Astyanax Our HOA requires residents to remove window screens during hurricane season but I never bother to put them back up so my windows are always closed. I'm always running either the heat or A/C. The thermostat is set to A/C about 80+% of the year including now.
Why can't air conditioning systems, instead of having an A/C setting and a Heat setting, just be designed so whatever temperature you set it to it makes the air that temperature? The way they work now is not logical. Maybe it wasn't possible to design air conditioners the way I want them to be designed in the 20th century, but it's definitely possible now. So what is the HVAC industry waiting for? Also, an air conditioner conditions the air to be hot or cold, which means calling the Cool setting A/C is just going along with a cultural norm and not logical either. Actually, the thermostat that my house has calls the cool setting Cool.
Another problem is that digital thermostats can only be set to the nearest degree. What are you supposed to do when you have the thermostat set to 79 and the air conditioner never shuts off but you set it to 80 and it doesn't turn on. They need to allow you to set it to the nearest tenth of a degree. I would like an even smaller incriment than that, but that's probably asking for too much. The old analog thermostats can be set to less then 1 degree incriments can't they? I'm not sure if smaller incriments were printed on the dial or the card behind the needle, but I'm pretty sure you can feather those analog thermostats to set the air conditioner to 79.5.
There's gonna be a leap forward in air conditioner technology and a leap backward or forward in thermostat technology sooner or later isn't there?
