For context, car in question is a 2011 Honda Civic Si. Been noticing this idly, but seems that 1500 miles or so, I end up having to add another quart to top off. Can't say I've observed any unusual smoke color from the exhaust, or errant smoke from anywhere else on the engine. Looking into it from my own searching and to other forums discussing the era of vehicle, it's implied that without the funky smoke, I can rule out any seals breaking down, adn that the most likely cause is that the (relative) low friction rings on the pistons are likely breaking down. Those who've had worse examples of this were adding oil as frequently as 500 miles. Given my rate of adding miles, it's entirely possible I could possibly mitigate this until it's time to do my next tune-up. And given the process of re-ringing pistons, it might also be the time to replace the timing chain as a preventative measure. That said, what else can I do in the meantime? My gut surmises a heavier oil might be something recommended, but I also want to avoid that for the long term health. I mean, I do want to keep this car till it actually gets old enough to qualify for historic plates 🙂 I'm wondering if maybe using Lucas Oil stabilizer at my next change would help mitigate as well? Still got another 1500 miles or so before the next milestone for maintenance, so just spit-balling in the meantime. With 128k on the clock, it's probably another 20k before it should be ready for the next tune-up. I should hope by then I would have enough aside to do the more serious work and remedy.
