antdude Bad as the previous F4 flicks?
No… not exactly.
As someone who read Fantastic Four for many years and loved how Marvel created a comic for folks who love cerebral science fiction, I get excited every time I hear them announce a Fantastic Four movie thinking they’d obviously connect with their fan base. And every time they release a Fantastic Four movie it’s never anything a fan would want to see. I would rate this a ⅕ on that scale of measurement.
I try to remain objective and exclude my love for years of good science fiction in Fantastic Four comics, and try to exclude the terrible casting decisions, while measuring the movie on its own merits… and it’s actually not terrible. I thought all the Avengers movies were really bad story-wise, they were just an excuse to throw shredded A-list actors on the screen to fight bad guys and this is kind of in that realm of storytelling. But it’s done fairly well.
I’d say it’s a 2.5 / 5. I’d rate it higher if a lot of things were more respectful to the comic book but I’ll wait until more people see it to comment further.
