I saw it with my old college friend and his son yesterday in a local old theatre. It wasn’t bad! We enjoyed it. It wasn’t great or horrible.

That’s always what I kind of felt about the show. It was fairly episodic. Not much of a narrative arc. After I while I just didn’t really care what was going on.

Counterpoint : think of it not as Star Wars movie but a movie release of an anime series. Bigger production budget, does a limited part of the story arc and/or is selfcontained.

I loved seeing Zeb, the story REALLY gets into the “hives of scum and villany,” and some of the setpieces were more than what we’d get in The Mandalorian TV series.

On the flip side, my first watch I kinda found Sigourney Weaver’s character and/or acting one-noted and the playing deck reference rather dated.

I enjoyed seeing Zeb myself! I also noticed a fun easter egg that directly correlated back to episode 4 when R2D2 and Chewbacca are playing that chess-looking board game on the Falcon. I haven’t seen anyone else mention that but I enjoyed it. I don’t want to spoil it but if you’ve seen A New Hope as many times as I have it’s hard to miss.

Welp, I’ll be skipping this.

The Mandalorian and Grogu landed with a muted impact. Grossing $98 million domestically over the four-day Memorial Day holiday weekend, the film scored the lowest opening for a Disney-era Star Wars movie.

It just seems like an unmitigated F#%k-up to take a walled garden streaming series that seemed to have been on its last legs and move it into theaters by way of a movie.

Seems like a premeditated self own.

Personally, I can’t be arsed with it.

Performers used to slapstick comedy had deer-in-headlights eyes.
Way out of their comfort zone. Steep learning uphill climb for all.

Meanwhile global interest persists. (In France, at least.)

I just watched it, and I’m not fully sure what would be needed to actually enjoy it – a case of beer or some LSD could’ve been helpful. 😉

I actually fell asleep on it at some point and realplayer kept looping it, and I woke up at this point:

I’m not sure if this was meant to be a full length movie, a parody, or what, but it was a ‘unique’ experience, that’s for sure. 🤪

And I think I can now understand why it wasn’t released in HD or 4k, though it could be included in some box set for completeness sake.

I’m not fully sure of the original source material for the youtube video, but it was probably 360p upscaled to 1080p, and that showed. Watching it at the original, unmodified resolution could’ve been a slightly better visual experience.

As many B-grade show productions serve for OJT, this may have been likewise.
