Hey - I've joined the party - hopefully others can find us through the reddit thread -- I don't know anyone's "alternate" contact info to get them back into the party -- but maybe we can get a decent google page rank for anyone who searches for "DSLReports alternate site". I think there were about 25 regulars as of a week ago.

AppleGuy Seems that several of the people who were either mods or knew more behind the scenes stuff are pretty much confirming that on the various threads out there - not sure why they left the proxy server running on the webhost when they turned all the backend stuff off - I guess different services with different contract expiry dates.
In any case, I hope most of our regulars find us - dks01, AR, Walter Dnes, Thane_Bitter, markuswarren, urbanriot, PX_Eliezer, Lothario, avernar - that's just a few off the top of my head I'll be watching for hopefully finding us soon! Thinking how many folks have faded away or moved on over the years - but us diehards never went anywhere 😉

Hydraglass That's true. A lot of folks are over at Ho Lee Fooks website. However, I do believe you need to pay to post in most of the forums ($10 US/year). I had asked, but then looking around I noticed about premium memberships. It seems that 1/2 have gone there and 1/2 have come here -- which is impressive since this site has only been around for a few hours.

Hopefully moderation doesn't become an issue here. I have no issue with moderation when it comes to hate speech, but BB had a habit of moderating some people for dumb reasons, while others who had similar posts wouldn't be. That did drive a lot of people to quit their accounts.

Hydraglass PX Eliezer is already here, and dks01 was on the r/dslreports subreddit when this forum was announced. I'll send him and Rook008 a PM, NefCanuck also responded to my Bluesky post, he hasn't been on the old site in a few years, but he knows this place exists.

taraf I think many will be searching on Google and they will be directed to reddit and there was also a thread at redflagdeals. I think the most common posters will find these sites.

I prefer this site because it's almost like a mirror of the old site - in terms of forums. We'll see how it goes.

AppleGuy I always thought most of the time moderation was ok - but I disagree somewhat with the heavy handed "stay on topic or start a new thread" thing - as many times things happen in the external world that change the discussion of the day on a topic in unexpected ways (esp. in current event discussions) and I prefer to let the conversation wander like it would in the real world. Obviously we don't want blatant "no you suck, no you suck more, no you suck like a gaping chest wound" battles - or hate speech or pure trolling - but I think we can self moderate pretty good most of the time 🙂

Hydraglass for me, BB seemed biased with his selection of deleting posts or threads for being "off topic" or "political" (when in CanChat). The bias was there also in CanPol, as leeway was given to some and not others. Not sure if you could call it heavy handed, of course, as very few posters were ever disciplined for real.

We do need xstar to come around with some of those cool, far fetched stories. We'd also need to get NCRGuy in to correct everyone. LOL
