Spectrum Has New Xumo Remote- Last Channel Recall Button

Hey,
For users of Spectrum Xumo streaming boxes, Spectrum has a new remote. Does anyone know if it has a button or what the command prompt is for Last Channel Recall?

There are help icons that tell what each button does on the remote. Does anyone have this new remote?

satch They’ve finally fixed my biggest peeve of Xumo, the channel up and down buttons are finally here.

I do not know if the “Back” also a channel recall. Apparently you select arrow down on the Navigation Pad and it will show you the last channel you were on, then hit OK/Select. So that’s still an annoyance if you want a direct last recall button.

Same. They worked fine. I remember when Open Navigator were buggy and crappy compared to uhh iGuide or something. I will wait unless Spectrum/Charter wants to pay me to test. 😉

Ultibeam They ask but didn’t require proof. You’ll be dealing with the XUMO department of Spectrum and not Billing, Technical Support, etc.. If you get the right person and they have a remote on hand, they’ll mail it to you which should take around 4 business days.

I may be wrong, but I get the feeling this may be available to everyone within the next few weeks and may come in the black color.

I reached out to Spectrum about the new remote and this is part of the reply: “if it is helpful, the number you would want to contact to inquire further as suggested above would be 1-833-697-7328. If available, I am showing that these remotes are available via a home shipment only at this time. ”

I absolutely regret letting myself being talked into giving up my cable boxes for XUMO. They are slow, the software is so cumbersome as to be just plain stupid. How can you build a system where the remote does not have channel up and channel down controls? I loaded the Spectrum app onto a Roku Ultra. Smooth as silk and acceptab;y fast. It’s obvious that the XUMO box is poorly designed. The difference in how the app is handled by the Roku is plainly obvious. Still no channel controls, but responses to inputs are much crisper. Opening the channel guide and scrolling to a channel and selecting it reults in an almost instant channel switch. Doing the same on the XUMO box reults in a black screen with three oscillating dots while the box pulls up its skirts and eventually changes channels. Ridiculous. And if you by accident stumble into a time shift page or you issue a verbal command that the box doesn’t understand, which seems to be most of them, you get stuck in a loop that can only be broken by unplugging the box and rebooting it. Example, “Change to Channel Ten” results in a message “I can’t do that. Try using the channel name”. So I try “Change to WFLA” which results in the same I can’t do that message. And there doesn’t seem to be a way to exit that page. As I said, stupid.

mixz1 Don’t work the XUMO, let the XUMO work for you. For example, pressing the down part of the circle on the remote shows the most recent channels to watch to change channels quickly. You can also add your favorite channels and re-order them in the Home menu. Or click the right-side of the circle on the remote two times to bring up the guide then click left and you can add your favorite channels in the guide. While in the guide, hold the ‘OK’ button (middle button in the circle on the remote) and select ‘Channel Number’ then ‘Favorites’ so now when you go to the guide, it will only show the channels you slected as your favorites and not the extra fluff channels you’re not interested in. Also, don’t say change channel to whatever. Instead, say NBC, Fox, Fox News, MTV Classic, History Channel, Spectrum Bay News 9, AccuWeather, etc.. All of this will speed up moving from channel to channel. If the XUMO is still slow for you, check to see if there’s an updated XUMO box. I myself, am trading in a slower first gen XUMO to a much faster newer XUMO box. If you already have a newer XUMO, click the settings button on the remote and ‘System Management’ and then ‘Resets and Updates’. Click ‘Refresh Apps’ to get any updates for better performance or ‘Restart Device’ to make sure the XUMO is running at top peak performance.

DjKilla Thank you. The voice control works perfectly as you described. However, saying the station identifier, i.e. WFLA results in confusion. And once your in that confusion loop, you can’t get out of it. I was aware of the rest, and I still maintain it’s slow as molasses on a cold day. Double pressing the right part of the circle does bring up a “wider” program list that is one hour wide as opposed to a half hour wide for a single press. Nevertheless, it is slow and sometimes first the grid appears and then the test fills in the grid. 2 to 4 seconds, eons in computer time.

As I type this, I tried saying WFLATV. I now have on my screen “Upgrade to watch HOLA TV”. I try to exit this by pressing the Home button, which takes me back to the channel I was watching for 3 seconds before going back to the “Uograde” acreen. Is this the way it’s supposed to work? I have to power cycle the box to get rid of the uopgrade nag.

Also, the button for selecting the HDMI input is also dumb. You can only scroll right through the input selections and if you inadvertantly press the selection button the menu pops up and doesn’t go away until you scroll therough the selections ato get back to where you were. Wouldn’t a “down” selection, like bottom of the circle be better at closing the HDMI menu?

And lastly, please forgive my stupidity but where on the remote do I find a settings button?

mixz1 Settings button is the gear looking button on the top of your remote.

Instead of saying “WFLA TV”, you have to say “NBC”. There’s three ways (maybe more) of using the voice command. Say ABC, CNN, etc., or the name of the show like Judy Justice, Pawn Stars, The Simpsons or Actor/Actress name. Each time you end up where you don’t want to be, always press the back arrow button on the remote. If that doesn’t work, then the Home button is your next choice.

When you click the input button on the remote, it displays the TV menu of inputs. So however way your TV is setup is how your inputs will change. For example, on my Sony and Hisense Roku TVs when I click on the input button on the XUMO remote, it will change to that input and after 1-2 seconds switch to that input. Some TVs may not do this automatically, so you would have to grab your TV remote and click enter (or similar) to switch to that input.

Don’t forget the two buttons you’ll use most is the back arrow button and the Home button. Always click the back arrow button first for whatever screen your on (guide, menu, info screen, settings, etc..). This should keep you out of looping and rebooting the XUMO.

Once again, thank you for staying with me on this. I suspect we are talking about two different remotes. As I’ve stated, once stuck in that loop the Back button does nothing. As for voice recognition, I have two ABC affiliates and two NBC affiliates in my viewing area and they both appear in the program guide. So stating ABC just causes confusion. Badly written code. Voice recognition should be able to understand and differentiate WFLA, WFLATV. WTVT or WFTS. And lastly there is no Gear button, nor settings icon, nor settings menu choice. I’m attempting to attach a picture to this note, but I don’t know if it will appear. If you navigate to [https://www.spectrum.com/cable-tv/streaming/xumo](https://) the gear button is pictured top right of the remote, but my remote has a screen icon with an arrow and it is what controls the HDMI input choice. Also there appears to be two additional buttons at the very top edge of the control that my remote does not have. I also might add that your description of the HDMI menu architecture doesn’t jibe with my remote either. If I use the TV remote, an LG 70 inch 2022 model, I can arrow left and right on the HDMI input screen and if I select the HDMI input that I’m already using, the menu just folds down as it should. As a reminder, the XUMO only scrolls right and if you mistakenly select the input you’re already on, the menu just hangs there until you go around the choices again, select the input and the menu folds down. Again, just badly written code. And not to kick a crippled horse, but everything is slow. Select a channel and watch the 3 dots dance around for a while until it changes. Same software on the Roku Ultra and everything is crisp and quick. From my ancient days of coding, if I were to guess, the Spectrum code was written for something else and has been shoehorned into the XUMO, with hardware tweaks made to accomodate the code interpretation shortcomings. Anyhow, again thanks, and again there is no gear button.

Last but not least, is there a way to attach an image to a post? COuld savve the traditional 10,000 words if I could post the two remotes side by side.

I just expanded the Spectrum photo. The slim button on the top edge left is Input and top edge right is Power. Neither of those buttons are on my remote.

Ok. Here we go. Two ways to get to settings for you. Say “Settings” using the voice command or click the Home button and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the screen until you see ‘Settings’. Just keep hitting the down button (it may stop for a second or two to load on the way down to the bottom).

I have an idea about the two WFLA (NBC) channels. Click right twice to get to the guide. click left and take note of the name of each channel. Then test it by saying what the name of the channel is and see if you’re able to switch to the specific channels.

Thanks. Worked perfectly. No updates, no changes to make. Differences between Xumo and Spectrum remotes noted. Still slow and stupid. One of the dumbest interfaces I’ve ever seen. And just to add, of all my streaming remotes, the only one that has no night illumination. Wait, I take that back. Firestick is also dark, but far simpler and intuitive to use. The low resolution guide (max 1 hour view without scrolling) is yet another shorcoming. Bad design, bad coding, bad execution. But thank you for all your help, suggestions and guidence. Amazing patience on your part. Much appreciated,. I think we about killed this discussion. I’ll patiently wait for the new remote, which is at least a partial concession of how badly Spectrum screwed up.
