Two local restaurants have done this now: Put lettuce and tomato on top of a hot cheese steak grinder. What are these people thinking?

telcodad Yeah, here in central NJ they’re called “subs” which is short for Submarine sandwich.

Being that there are still over 20,000 “Subway” (as in Sub Way) restaurants in the USA, and many more in other countries, I’d say that Submarine wins as the predominant term.

And then there are hoagies and heros. I agree wiyh Hoo, the bread makes or breaks a sandwich. Chea]ly made bread, like cardboard pizza crust just kills a good meal.

On that note, I like to use toasted Ciabatta rolls for burgers and sliced jumbo Nathans hot dogs. Butter those rolls and toast them on the grill or skillet. 🙂

egeezer I’m a hard roll man for burgers. The Aldi Chibatas and English Muffins are dry, crumbly, and yucky. Really good Chiabata is good for small burgers.

Our Waterbury’s own Melitis, which is now gone, made the best grinder rolls in the world. You have to trust me on this, only 4 ingredients and really masterful prep and baking. I wish a white night had saved the company.

It’s new NYC water bagles, there is a huge difference.
