px_eliezer_ Thanks - yes once it is factory reset - the passwords revert to the default. I just tried dialing *** and then entering 202 into the keypad which verbally gives me the ip address of the device.
I then entered that ip address into a browser and got the login screen for the Grandstream so it should be ok.
Fingers crossed. If I lost that number how will all of the fake bill collectors call me and the fundraisers for the State Police?

That would be irresponsible and questionable (at least ethically) and if they did, I wouldn’t trust Voip.ms to make proper business decisions at all. If Voip.ms shelled out any money for that customer base it was a waste of money and it was done hopes to gain customers being screwed over by the VoIPO.

So they would be basically rewarding Tim for scamming his customer base if money has changed hands.

huh surprised they lasted this long. had them when they first launched all those years ago… not bad service but no one in my family other than my in laws(not even my 90 year old grandparents) use a house phone. even the alarm systems all use cell now.

I have two numbers with Voipo and wondering what to do. I tried calling Viop.ms and wrote a email at the support email given but no answer as of yet. I have one toll free number that was ported from Vonage back in 2011. I have had this number quite a while and used it on adds for things I sell. I do not make out bound calls , it is used for inbound only and had it set up to forward to my cell number. I also have another standard number with them setup the same way. if i lose the toll free number I may be sunk as people i have dealt with for the last 25 years or so have it. I tried to keep my personal cell and landline off any internet adds or forums for privacy, maybe that came back to bite me. Does voip.ms offer anything like i had set up with Voipo? Like i mentioned i get no answer from them. Their phone goes to VM as it says they are busy.

Can they call forward to another number without having any special equipment on my end. Like i mentioned i don’t place calls on those numbers only answer incoming. Basically can it all be setup from my desktop and ran off a dashboard like I did in Voipo? I’m under the gun in this also and couldn’t find the answer when i tried to look at the Voip.ms site. It all goes to a sighn up screen . I did fing the wiki and scrolled through that. i tried logging in top Voipo btu only could get the were quiting screen until i used the link posted above and got to the portal.

Sorry as i may be behind on some of this. My numbers aways just worked and never thought I would be running into this, especially after the two year for one offers they sent a month ago. I’m not loosing as much as others that took those offers so im lucky in that regard, i was payed up until 12/25 on one line and 2/26 on the other.

Yes, you can set up Call Forwarding on Voip.MS

Just be aware (this is NOT a problem, but just be aware) that if you receive a call on your Voip.MS number, and forward it to another number (including for example a cellphone)…

You’ll pay Voip.MS for the inbound (receiving) part of the call, and pay Voip.MS for the outbound (forwarding) portion of the call.

But with small usage, your fees will be small too.

And—the call forwarding can ALL be done on the Voip.MS site (Dashboard), if JUST doing forwarding you do NOT need to have any physical device (ATA) hooked up.

Samot As for the ports, this puts people in a real bad spot. Sure there is 7 days until Aug 6th but ports don’t count weekends, so you really have 5 days to port your number(s). Since the average carrier port time is 3-5 days with everything being perfect putting in a port order today (and VoIP.ms is automated, i.e. a person doesn’t need to submit the port manually on their end) it will take 24-48 hours to get a response back be it confirmation or not.

Murphy’s Law, things WILL go wrong with such an absurdly short window .

And some of the Voipo Bad Karma will soon enough become Voip.MS Bad Karma.

I’m a little surprised that Voip.MS is putting themselves in such a high-risk (and low-reward) situation.

Two weeks would have been bad enough, but one week is not cool at all.

I’m one of those who’ve been with Voipo since 2009. Am sorry to them go, though there’s no excuse for what some are suffering financially based on what I read :-(. I have a little over a year of my 2-yr contract left … however, I have no regrets about my years with Voipo.

Dumb question: I have a Voipo provided Grandstream HT502. Based on all that I’ve read in the materials provided it appears I can use it with voip.ms. The question is not whether voip.ms supports a Grandstream HT502, but rather whether the Voipo provided one is “locked” in any way to Voipo. I have memories from the past about Linksys RTP31P2 being locked and needing more than pressing the reset button to “factory reset” it - hence the question.

Hopefully if it were “locked” we would have seen posts by now from the affected people.

There have been a large number of posts on the VoIP forum in Reddit, and no one has (yet) reported this.

Worst, worst case scenario—

You can STILL port your number (need to HUSTLE) whether to Voip.MS or another provider, without having a working ATA or IP phone in your physican posession.

In the case of Voip.MS you can use their (new) softphone.

Or for Voip.MS or any other provider, a great free softphone(for Android) is Sipnetic.

I have HUSTLED - and submitted porting information a little before my post above. The state of the request is now “Processing” - not sure if all requests automatically go into “Processing” when the submit button is hit.

Yes, I’m aware of the existence of their softphone. In a previous life I used Zoiper a lot and see that it’s still around, though I’ll go with the voip.ms softphone.

Just got an e-mail from “Voipo” with shutdown comments and instructions….

BUT:

1) I am NOT a current “Voipo” customer—used them very briefly well over 10 years ago, and that was not even full service but rather just to pay for a fax number (VFax). Have NEVER received anything from them since then.

2) But I AM a Voip.MS customer and this e-mail used the current address that Voip.MS has on file.

Was it sent out because of (1) or (2), I wonder, but it’s strange either way.

It is not a dumb question since Vonage actually locks theirs down on the firmware level so factory reset will not even allow you to access their Grandstream voip adapter. Voipo does not have their Grandstream devices locked down at the firmware level they just changed the default password. All you need to do is hold down the small reset button for a couple of seconds to factory reset the VOIP adapter and program it for Voip.MS. So Far:

I successfully set up my Voip.ms account
Put a $15.00 payment on it and then received an automatic $10.00 courtesy credit.
Once you do the credit card thing, you are then allowed to put in the port request and you have to attach a copy of a voipo invoice (as a screen shot).
Once that is done, you can begin filling out the rest of the choices for your account like disallowing 411 calls (or they bill you 99 cents a call)
Setting up voice mail greeting - can be live recorded once you port over or they have an AI voice that allows you to type in a greeting, choose exactly what you want the greeting to say and they give you a choice of voices to use. I chose RYAN1 because it sounded the most human.
My port request went in yesterday and I will be looking for some progress since they only address them M-F
I followed the instructions below to see if the Grandstream is “reachable” while still under Voipo’s control, the theory being that if we do a factory reset with a paperclip, it will allow access to the device through a web browser once you obtain the local ip address is it assigned on your router’s local network. After that works you will be able to log in to the Grandsteram and populate the appropriate fields to point it to the voip.ms servers.
FALL BACK - if you set up the voip.ms account and it ports successfully to voip ms BUT you have difficulty with the Grandstream - you can always set up the iPhone or Android softphone using your credentials so you will at least have working inbound and outbound calling on your cell phone while you resolve the ATA issues.

I’m going to my neighbor this morning to help him set up his port request so I should be a “legend in my own mind” expert once I am done.
Here are the instructions for accessing the HT802 adapter after paperclip (or a spare SIM card ejector tool) reset.
To set up and configure the Grandstream HT802 Analog Telephone Adapter:
1. Physical Installation
• Plug a standard RJ11 telephone cable into one of the Phone ports (Phone 1 or 2) on the HT802 and connect the other end to your analog telephone.
• Connect the Ethernet cable to the Internet port on the HT802, then connect the other end to your router or modem.
• Plug in the power adapter and connect it to a wall outlet. Wait for the Power, Ethernet, and Phone LEDs to become solid, indicating the device is ready for use.
2. Find the HT802’s IP Address
• Connect an analog phone to the HT802.
• Go off-hook (lift the receiver) and quickly dial *** (three stars) to enter the IVR menu.
• When prompted, dial 002. The voice prompt will announce the current IP address of your HT802.
3. Web Configuration
• On a computer connected to the same network, open a web browser.
• Enter the IP address announced in the previous step into the address bar.
• Log in to the Grandstream Device Configuration Utility. The default login credentials are typically:
• Username: admin
• Password: admin (unless changed).
4. Basic Settings and Registration
• From the web interface, configure the SIP account settings and any necessary codecs or call features. Refer to your VoIP provider or PBX requirements for specifics.
• Save and apply your changes.
5. LED Indicators
• Power LED: Solid when on, flashes during boot.
• Ethernet: Solid when connected, blinks with data activity.
• Phone 1 & 2: Solid when registered, blinks if off-hook or busy, slow blink if voicemail.
6. Factory Reset (if needed)
• Press and hold the reset button on the back of the device for about 7 seconds, or use the web interface to restore factory defaults.

It’s great to know that a factory reset is trivial, which means once my number ports I’ll be able to resuse the HT502.

I should have added that I’d already tried to access the HT502 using the default password (admin) to no avail.

Once you have factory reset and regained access to the HT502 I would suggest changing the default password as well in order to protect your device from potential online hackers.

Absolutely @toolman1990! I have several network devices, in my home network including an old RT31P2 with a free incoming DID, and none of them have the default password, whether a generic one or the unique one imprinted on the device.
