I un-cut the cord

Had DirecTV stream but prefer to manage fewer bills so I went with Xfinity X1. I have an XG1v4 and an Xi6.

I guess I’m one of the few millennials who still prefers old school TV. Streaming vs cord tv just depends on your viewing habits. If you like shows and movies, then streaming might fit the bill. If you like news, weather and sports then you’re stuck with the good old cord. It’s the die hard sports fans that are keeping cord tv on life support. If you want your regional sports networks or ESPN then it’s the good old cord. I have the cord due to poor TV reception in my area.

My colony watches variety of stuff so it’s hard to keep on a few streaming services.

You have good Internet service though right? If so then I don’t see why you had a problem with DirecTV.

DirecTV has been a terrific alternative to my former U-Verse which I used to evangelize here and on DSLR for years.

Astyanax directv stream itself is still uncutting the cord imo since its still linear pay tv. but its reasonably priced so i enjoy having it. and its higher quality than cable. but i guess i can understand people wanting an all in one thing.

The packages with live network/local broadcast stations are really identical to cable - and priced in the same range so the lines are sort-of blurred. Direct Stream, YTTV, HULU+ live TV, etc.

Several of the local, national and international networks, news services and TV stations have their own ROKU channels. I find them handy to catch up on news if I miss scheduled broadcasts.

When a major event happens in an area, I will temporarily load a station from there to get live reporting.

You know there’s a Spectrum app available to download on most streaming devices. If that device connects wirelessly would I be considered to have “cut the cord” even though I subscribe to Spectrum? 😉

I have Bell Satellite TV and Bell Fibe. Satellite is superior to Fibre. I use the PVR function, so no streaming.

MacLeech Bell does as well, but not with the capacity of the satellite PVR. Bell also expires streaming videos after 3 months. They disappear. Not with the PVR.

Yeah, not really a distinguishing factor. The Xfinity app does pretty much everything the set top box does if you are paying for cable. YTTV etc. have matching streaming-only services.

I feel thats a logical choice. I mean it’s on you to choose what options best suit your usage. Im honestly surprised my folks took to streaming like a fish in water. As far as sports goes, my dad watches the Detroit Tigers, so we just buy the season pass for FanDuel streaming app every year, its his fathers day gift. Right now the TV reception in my area is crap, I think it has to do with solar activity or something like that. BUT most of our local news networks have an app, so if push comes to shove my mom will watch that for local news and weather. I rely on my phone for the weather myself. I expect in the fall the TV reception will be improved. Though with on going fight with ATSC 3.0 going on in the FCC Im not sure how long we will be able to use OTA TV anyway.

Donut417 TV reception was great when it was analog but you your results would vary depending on antenna and location. Many times you would get picture noise but at least you would get reception. Now with digital TV you cannot get reception unless you have a roof antenna. I think the plan all along with DTV was to force viewers to pay TV. Now the stations are not liking it with the cord cutters.

That’s too bad. I have all the live local channels and regional sports channels on DirecTV Stream in my area.
