1) Does it bother you when you’ve ordered a product, and the company knows the shipping will be somewhat slow, yet they send you multiple requests to review the product (which you have not received yet!) Sort of rubbing it in! 2) Does it bother you when you’re driving on a multiple-lane road, and the driver in the adjacent lane (to your left) just sits and sits in your blind spot? Even though they have room to maneuver in their lane, but you can’t maneuver in your own lane? Thanks. 😉

The owner of the car HAS TO take responsibility for whomever they let drive the car.

This is not a new concept in law, and it encourages owners to be responsible.

If it’s a rental car situation, the rental company bills the person whose rental period includes the time of the ticket.

If it’s a company having their employee use the vehicle, that will be dealt with internally.

That’s why as well, auto insurance policies do NOT cover anybody who happens to be driving the car—only will cover certain additional specified drivers (for example a licensed adult family member living in the same household…)

Yes and the state the policy was written in.

In Florida the vehicle must be insured but not the driver.

Yes, but permissive use is typically included with some exceptions. See: What Is Permissive Use Car Insurance?

I had a friend/customer who was so cheap that when his son reached driving age instead of paying the very high rate for a youthful driver he put the car in his father’s name and on his father’s policy and had his son “borrow” the car so–as he thought–there would be coverage at the reasonable father’s rate. I don’t know whether the company ever caught on to the scheme but I see in the article that such regular use is rightly so an impermissible exception to the general courtesy permissive use coverage clause. Certainly if the kid had more than one accident or ticket they would figure it out and likely permanently drop both him and his dad, if not even deny coverage for any accident, and would probably investigate and probably come to the same conclusion with even one accident or ticket that are likely scenarios with teenage drivers. What some people won’t do to save a buck amazes me sometimes. He would regularly tell me about other schemes in the same vein that he had.

Depending on how the policy was worded doing such might result in a loss of coverage should the minor get into a collision, as the insurance might consider him to be uninsured.

If the son lived ‘at home’ then that would be contrary to the terms of my policy – all household members that might drive the vehicle must be listed. Casual use by others is ok.

I imagine this is precisely to avoid the kind of dodge you describe.
