Not relevant to what was being which was being discussed which was using wind and solar to produce and compress H2.
H2 extraction is a power intensive process and compressor stations are not exactly low energy operations as they require really large three phase, three stage compressors which need a heck of a lot of aux cooling.
And it is the same with vapor based gas pipelines, even though they run anywhere from 600-2400 PSI they still need pumping stations ever so many miles to boost the pressure back up.
And another problem a friend of mine came up with last night is can H2 be odorized with say mercaptan allowing leaks to be quickly noticed?
Considering the energy level of H2 it would definitely be a good idea to deodorize if used as a motor vehicle fuel, otherwise not smelling a leak in the garage and flicking a light switch could be a real surprise.
Also keep in mind mercaptan is corrosive I wonder how that would play out if mixed with H2?
