meerkathalon It may have been upgraded to mid-split since 2021 (new node and amps). Checking nearby addresses and seeing if 2 Gbps is an available speed tier is your best bet.

Haha No, there is no mid split around here. Address right across the street shows 1.2 Gbps as max plan. I’ll have to drive by here and see what equipment is here.

A lot has changed since 2021, it’s possible the node has been changed since then. Maybe you can drive by there and take picture of the new one, if it has been replaced. I still can’t tell the difference between a node from a Mid-Split area, to a node from a DOCSIS 4.0 area, they look identical to me from the outside.

Here’s another fun one for you guys. The first pic is from 2019 of another ADC, but it appears to be disconnected. Sometime between 2019 and 2024 (the latest available), an OM6000 was installed, but there’s still no midsplit available.

The OM6000 seems quite rare in this area (I’ve only come across three). I’ve only seen Harmonic gear where midsplit has been installed. Otherwise, I’ve only seen OM4100 series units, which have been in place since 2010. My speculation is that there was a period before midsplit where Comcast was using OM6000s for new installs or upgrades.

meerkathalon The OM6000’s in my area are not delivering mid-split either (even some that were installed a few years ago and are still in-place today). The White Harmonic Pebble nodes in my area always offer mid-split to the homes and businesses connected to it. The NC4000’s nodes are all sub-split, some are on an rShelf. (sub-split rPHY/vCMTS).

It almost seems like Comcast had plans to use the OM6000 for Mid-Split, but than changed there mind. This one was only there maybe a year, then they turned around and replaced it with a White Harmonic Pebble. This pole is about 1 mile from house, everything is in ground in my neighborhood. The initial upgrades from Sub-Split to Mid-Split was September 2023. Mid-Split went active for me on December 2023. But then they came back in 2024, replace one of the nodes again, I’m assuming with a white Harmonic Pebble, the pedestal also ended up getting replaced with one of newer much larger pedestals.

Here’s the latest picture of White Harmonic Pebble node on the same pole a year later. This White Harmonic Pebble looks identical, to White Harmonic Pebble nodes I’m seeing in DOCSIS 4 areas. How do you tell the difference between the ones in Mid-Split areas, vs the ones in DOCSIS 4 areas?

You don’t from just looking at the housing.

hex0101 That’s if you buy them from the factory with FDX. If you change modules in them after initial purchase, you may not get a sticker attached. Both of the housings in the picture may or may not be FDX anymore, depending on changes made to the modules installed.

bigcoda What’s the box with “8659” printed on the bottom? I’ve seen a few of those around here and I’m curious what they are. They’re always near Comcast nodes just like in this photo, usually on main drags.

SpottedCat xfinitywifi hotspot. It has a built in DOCSIS modem and wireless AP, all powered directly off of the CATV plant. No speed cap either, unlike the hotspots broadcasted by the residential/business gateway’s. Besides Xfinity Mobile devices which do not have any speed cap even when connected to a residential/business gateway because of the Wi-Fi PowerBoost feature of Xfinity Mobile.

These are only Wi-Fi 5 802.11ac, and possibly only DOCSIS 3.0 as well. Not sure if Comcast is upgrading them these days or not.

hex0101 Ahhh, I see! It makes sense they’re on main drags near commercial buildings and such then.

That said, back when I had Comcast (I’m still here through inertia, heh) I never had xfinitywifi work all that well when out and about. It always felt like I’d get better network performance turning off WiFi and using AT&T cellular.
