Anyone have a copy of the DSLR (or otherwise) list of HighSplit locations and phasing? Bonus if it also has the status's of each.

Jaybonaut Probably the same speeds he had in 2000 and 1998.

So obviously not the same speeds or same can as his 1gb/40mb at $60 he has today.

jarablue likely will see 5 or 10Gig download with Spectrum. They are almost done with the markets that will cap at 2gig. I suspect later down the line phase 1 areas will have the work done to increase the download to 5Gig.

Take with a grain of salt, but saw somewhere saying Construction is taking over “network evolution” (Charters marketing name for high split), vs Maintenance. Not sure what effect this will have. Contracting work out maybe?

Charter launched high-split in these headends this week:
Greenville
Waxahachie

Waxahachie was a quick start to finish they were upgrading equipment in March. I am guessing they sent a few teams to tackle the areas fed from that headend.

zapman987 They have already contracted work during phase 1. They had issues with contracting out work and they decided to use in house maintenance to perform the upgrades.

They have it here long after TEC is done. Work started at the start of the month. They said it will take year but most of it will be done by years end. Already have pre-orders going and signs everywhere. And a news release on their website. When I put my address it it says “Fast Fiber Internet is coming to your area! Construction is underway, and pre-registration is now open. Fill out your information below to be the first to know when we’re ready to install at your home!” Meanwhile with Spectrum….crickets…….

What’s ironic where Charter put in new service thanks to RDOF funding they not only have fiber but it’s symmetrical. Could have done high split here at the same time since they were here in the area already. I mean we’ve only been customers for 25 years

Kinda. They keep their packaging the same for sake of marketing (so once an area is symmetrical on HFC then the FTTH also goes symmetrical), with the sole exception of the 1 Gbps plan, which is symmetrical from the start. (RDOF required 1000/500 at that speed tier, but why bother with a mis-match if it’s already going to be different from HFC?)

jma89 The only areas that will be stuck without upgrades unless Charter goes in and converts the RFoG areas to pure PON as these areas are using cable modems can’t go above 5-42MHz or 5-85MHz depending on the ONU and they can’t do OFDMA on older RFoG ONU models.

jma89 What do you mean kind of? I know someone here that has Charter’s fiber service here they’re getting over 900 Mbps on the upload? Meanwhile If I upgrade to Gig I’d get 35 Mbps upload

Not_Sure I was referring to how simply having FTTH service doesn’t mean the packaging is symmetrical. It’s only symmetrical for the gig plan.

(Although you should see closer to 45 upload with the new packaging. At least until high-split comes through.)

Motorola870 Ah, true. I forgot they did some RFoG into the house before moving to XGPON. Although I wonder if they’ll just pivot to XGPON in those areas. I suppose it would only be an option if the XGPON wavelengths don’t conflict with RFoG… Hmm….

It sounds like Charter is still going to be the ones in charge of the combined company even thought they’re taking on the Cox Communications name. I’d say it will be pretty business as usual other than the official corporate name change and the fact they’ll be a larger company.

CBusdude when Charter purchased TWC and Brighthouse they upgraded a legacy Charter system to 860MHz in my area while the merger was pending.

I suspect the Cox systems are going to get high-split upgrades. They had mentioned some areas were potentially planned for high-split in Cox serviced areas that hadn’t gotten mid-split upgrades or FTTH.

The only question I have is will they delay the upgrades already underway outside of phase 1 areas.

I also expect the 2gig tier to rollout as planned for phase 1 areas.

smccloud Not likely. They have already done walkouts and prep work for the legacy Charter systems.

They probably are going to keep doing high-split upgrades as it seems that Charter is the surviving company even though they are taking on the Cox Communications name.

They also may not be in a real hurry to upgrade most of the legacy Cox areas as they have mid-split return path. They can do about 300Mbps upload on mid-split return.

Funny you should mention that, they were actually asked about this during the investor call and they said they felt no need to upgrade a mid-split system to match Charter’s high-split.

Nope, in the investor call they were asked about network upgrades and they said the Charter High-split upgrades will continue as planned and they have no plans in the immediate future to upgrade Cox because they already have 2gbps across 99% of their footprint and they don’t feel the need to re-upgrade from mid to high split in the near term.
